Laptop Computers December 17, 2003 (AXcess News) Reno NV - Itronics, Inc. (OTCBB: ITRO), portraying itself as the world's only fully integrated photochemical recycler, has poured over $5.5 million dollars into its heavy metal recovery process over the last decade and appears to be heading towards profitability in the near term.

They went to places like Senegal, Uganda, India, and Thailand, using only laptop computers and a digital video camera.

Laptop Computer The Company operates two primary divisions; Itronics Metallurgical, Inc., which operates a photochemical recycling plant that includes related silver recovery. And, Whitney & Whitney, Inc., which provides mining and materials management, geology, engineering and economics consulting, and publishes specialized mineral economics and materials financial reports.

laptop computers is driving strong sales for notebook computers, according to the latest quarterly sales figures from the research firm IDC, which reported a 37% computer sales for the second quarter, compared with a year earlier. In the U.S., laptop sales grew 17.7%, while sales of desktop computers and servers fell 4%. The New York Times ( 10), CNET ( 10)

Desktop Computer According to the latest figures, Itronics has managed to cut losses 17% for the first three quarters. Net loss before taxes for that period was $2,085,200 compared to $2,512,400 in 2002, an improvement of $427,200.The primary factor contributing to the reduced losses were reduced cost of sales and operating expenses. The company's Itronics Metallurgical, Inc. subsidiary has been both a drain on cash and the greatest potential for returns. In 1999 ITRO managed to raise $3.4 million in financing and began developing plans for the world's first photochemical recycling plant for the manufacture of fertilizers. Since then the business has managed to clear environmental hurtles to produce usable fertilizer out of the chemical wastes developed from film processing and more importantly, to develop markets for those products.

Notebooks Losses incurred have extended for years with management continually faced with finding new sources of capital, which may have held back Itronics development overall. But a key factor in its survival has always been silver, which was the main focus of its initial photochemical recycling efforts. ITRO manufactures 5-ounce silver bars which it markets under its own brand, "Silver Nevada Miner".

Lenovo The Silver Nevada Miner bars have become well known amongst metal enthusiasts worldwide, selling for up to $9 an ounce, a 60% premium over the closing New York spot price of $5.61 Wednesday. The Bars come with a certificate of authenticity and are manufactured in lots according to the year, making them collectors items as well.

Hard Drive While Itronics has managed to stay afloat with its silver, recovered through its photochemical recycling process, it believes its real precious returns will come in the form of fertilizer sales.

Travelstar One thing Itronics is good at is marketing and while few can claim as successful a program as ITRO's Silver Nevada Miner bars, the ability to turn the remaining liquids derived from its heavy metal recovery process into fertilizer is beginning to attract Green industry investment enthusiasts.

Gateway The company has been quiet about its market developments overall for its Gold-N-Gro line of fertilizers, opting instead to focus on expanding their reach through the sale of bulk tank deliveries to regional distribution organizations. In the recent 10-Q it states that inventories have been built up to maximum levels over the last year in anticipation of stronger market demands this spring.

Laptop Parts On the agricultural front, Itronics' fertilizer is one of the few types that meets California's stringent prop 65 environmental requirements where specialty crop producers feed fertilizers through irrigation systems. Corrosion and line plugs have plagued those farmers for years, but studies have shown that Itronics recycled materials work so well that crop yields have been reported to increase while irrigation maintenance costs are reduced.

Software Due to its fertilizer market gaining strength, Itronics anticipates that its break even level will be achieved in late 2004 and already is showing signs of even earlier results.

Hard Drives AXcess News believes Itronics marketing abilities to be exemplary and that its fertilizer programs will show results, so we added Itronics to our Stock Guide's 'best picks' column in support of those beliefs and will be tracking the company in the future for our readers.Shares of Itronics (OTCBB: ITRO) closed up Wednesday 10.71% to end the session at $0.155, a gain of $0.015 on volume of 488,240 shares.
