Schneider Vice President Honored as Top IT Leader by Computerworld
By WTN News • 01/14/04 GREEN BAY, Wis. - Schneider Nationals vice president of application development, Bob Grawien, has been named as one of the world's leading Information technology (IT) leaders by Computerworld, an IT industry trade publication. The award honors executives who demonstrate technology leadership in resolving pressing business problems. Honorees, including Grawien, were profiled in the January 5 issue of Computerworld and will be honored at Computerworld's Premier 100 IT Leaders Conference.
Grawien was selected from nearly 600 nominees. Nominees were measured against Computerworld's IT Leadership Index, a set of characteristics that describes executives who guide the effective use of IT in their organizations, and evaluated by the editors and an external panel of past Premier 100 honorees.
"Our Premier 100 list honors those who've had a positive impact on their IT groups and their companies during some of the toughest times in years," said Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of Computerworld. "They lead people and projects to success. They're adept communicators who are 'bilingual' in tech-speak and business talk. But most significantly, they're still willing to take risks in these highly risk-averse times."
Grawien, 45, has more than 20 years of strategy, technical design and code development experience. As vice president of application development at Schneider National, he manages more than 250 associates and is responsible for developing enterprise-wide IT strategy as well as multi-year IT plans and budgets, and end-user applications. Fostering close working relationships with key business leaders also is an important element of his role at Schneider National.

In 2003, Grawien managed the development and implementation of two new technology applications that offered dramatic productivity and collaboration improvements to Schneider National's customer service group. Grawien and the application development team at Schneider National successfully navigated change management and integration issues associated with each application deployment, helping the company achieve significant productivity and cost savings improvements.
Prior to joining Schneider National in 1999, Grawien held various systems development and development management positions at IBM. Previously, he was an application programmer for the U.S. government in Washington, D.C. Grawien graduated from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse with a degree in Computer Science. He lives in Green Bay.
