Pope John Paul II will kiss a crucifix on Sunday and issue an apology for the sins and crimes committed in the name of the Roman Catholic Church.
The Day of Pardon Mass at St. Peter's Basilica will ask for God's forgiveness for centuries of sin.
Amongst the sins to be forgiven are the sins committed during the Holocaust, the Inquisition, the Crusades and acts against other Christians in religious wars.
"The church, full of holiness received from our Lord, kneels before God and implores his pardon for the past and present sins of its children," said Cardinal Roger Etchegaray, president of Vatican's 2000 Jubilee Committee.
Gore and Bush big winners on Super Tuesday Tuesday, March 7 marked Super Tuesday in the U.S. 16 states across the country held presidential primaries to determine which candidate each party will nominate.
Vice President Al Gore sealed his nod from the Democrats by sweeping all 16 states. Rival Bill Bradley, is expected to pull out of the race later this week.
Gore recognized Bradley for his campaign platforms of reform and racial healing.
On the Republican side, Texas Governor George W. Bush captured a dozen of the Super Tuesday states. John McCain was able to end the day with only four wins.
Exit polls suggest that Bush was most popular with voters over 60, abortion opponents and committed Republicans, while McCain nabbed the independent voters.
McCain will be returning to Arizona to decide on his next move in the campaign. Next week promises to bring two more wins for Bush when Texas and Florida hold their primaries.
