Independent Report: ThoughtWorks a Leading Open Source Service Provider

Open source software continues to gain foothold in European and North American companies

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 12, 2004--ThoughtWorks has recently been recognized by Forrester Research Inc. for its deep expertise in open source software.
In fact, the report titled "Exploiting Open Source in Europe" states: "UK companies looking for significant players will turn to ThoughtWorks, among others."

The June 2004 report also acknowledged ThoughtWorks as one of three firms that has deep expertise in open source software.

"ThoughtWorks and two other firms win on deep expertise. These specialist vendors are well placed: when expertise on open source code is required; for pure open source projects - if so, they may operate directly; and to reinforce generalist integration teams on open source developments." - Forrester Research, Inc.

"Open source is software that has source code available for no charge, and improved and debugged by global networks of developers. IT departments typically look to service providers like ThoughtWorks, a U.S.-based transnational IT professional services firm, to help develop and integrate open source software.

"Due to our recognized open source expertise, coupled with our proven ability to deliver complex applications, our clients are turning to ThoughtWorks to provide open-source solutions on strategic and business-critical software development projects," explains Cyndi Mitchell, a senior architect with ThoughtWorks' London office. "Open source adoption rates in Europe and around the world are climbing as the benefits to organizations becomes clear."

In addition to the inherent cost savings due to the absence of licensing fees, Mitchell says that using open source software can reduce time-to-market for new developments because it is easier to procure, use and change than most of the commercial alternatives. Mitchell further asserts that the methods used to create most open source software naturally yield higher quality product, so IT organizations are starting to find that support and maintenance is not as much of an issue as it has been with commercial software in the past.
