Sprint Enhances Broadband Home Networking Experience with 2Wire Residential Gateways

San Jose, California - August 15, 2005 - Sprint has inked a deal with 2Wire, a provider of broadband service delivery platforms, to offer intelligent residential gateways to Sprint High-speed Internet subscribers, for an enhanced broadband home networking experience. cisco
Following a comprehensive RFP process to determine the best possible product for our subscribers, we selected the 2Wire HomePortal residential gateway, said Jeff Hohman, director of product management for Sprints Local Telecommunications Division. The HomePortal demonstrated superior performance, features, and quality, when compared to competitive products. Its plug and play functionality, extended wireless reach, business class firewall, and Web Remote Access are just a few of the qualities that impressed us. We think our subscribers will be equally impressed.

Yes, when the computer that is physically wired to the wireless gateway is used to set up the home network. The Home Network Install CD automates the installation of device drivers for a computer that is wired to the gateway via a USB cable, and configures the network settings (including wireless security parameters) for the home network. There is no need to run The Home Network Install CD on secondary computers that are attached to the wireless gateway via physical wire. These computers will simply connect to the shared Internet connection provided through the gateway’s integral broadband modem.
