Modine showcases CO2 cooled Jeep

Modine Manufacturing Company announced Saturday it will feature its carbon dioxide-cooled Jeep Liberty at the 19th Annual Agricultural Machinery Conference in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, May 3-5. This vehicle features an air conditioning system that does not release dangerous hydrofluorocarbon emissions, cools faster than current systems and is more fuel efficient, all while taking up the same amount of space under the hood.
Carbon dioxide is a natural refrigerant, as it exists naturally in the environment. And, although carbon dioxide is a known greenhouse gas, its use as a refrigerant in automotive air conditioning systems poses no threat to the environment because these systems do not produce additional carbon dioxide.
Wattelet will be Modines featured speaker at the conference, which is designed to bring together engineers to learn about trends and technologies affecting the world of agricultural engineering.
We want customers to see and touch the technology we are offering, first hand, said Jonathan Wattelet, Modine director of research and development. This is a great chance for this conference audience to see what is available, because there is increasing interest in CO2 technology for on and off-highway products, including agricultural equipment. We want to showcase our capabilities in innovative thermal management, now and into the future.
Besides carbon dioxide, Modines technical presentation will include information on exhaust-gas-recirculation coolers, which enable vehicles to meet tighter emissions restrictions, compact cooling systems and fuel cells. Modines presentation is scheduled for May 5, from 2:30-4:30 p.m.
