CompTIA Network+ Certification to Be Upgraded Next Year

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 27, 2004--The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) announced today that its popular Network+(TM) certification will be upgraded in 2005 to cover advances in technology and reflect changes in job tasks. The objectives of the 2005 certification exam are now posted online for review by courseware developers, curriculum planners, and instructors. Candidates who have studied or are currently studying the current exam objectives should register to take the exam as soon as possible.
"We plan to introduce the upgraded certification exam (the version that tests against the 2005 objectives) to coincide with the conclusion of the 2004-2005 academic year," said Kris Madura, certification program manager, CompTIA. "This will give authors and publishers the length of time needed to adequately revise text and test prep materials, as well as allow instructors to effectively transition classes toward coverage of topics and scenarios found on the 2005 exam. The introduction of the 2005 exam should be seamless from the learner's point of view, which is what CompTIA is striving for."

CompTIA Network+, along with CompTIA A+(R), has become a world-wide standard of education for men and women entering the field of information technology. The certification validates skills equivalent to nine months practical networking experience.

CompTIA Network+ not only validates foundational knowledge and enhances productivity and quality while on the job, the certification also prepares the technician for career advancement. Microsoft, for example, designates CompTIA Network+ as an elective in its MCSA certification track.

Those earning the Network+ certificate have the skills needed to install, configure, and troubleshoot today's basic networking hardware peripherals and protocols. Exam questions are posed not only as expressions of fact, but also as problem/solution scenarios technicians experience while on the job. The exam was last updated late in 2001.

The four CompTIA Network+ domains have been modified in the 2005 exam to reflect changes in job roles. The table below contrasts objectives in the current and 2005 exams.

"CompTIA A+, Network+, and now Security+(TM) are recognized respectively as the foundational certificate for PC technicians, network administrators, and security professionals," said Gene Salois, vice-president, Certification, CompTIA. "The major investment CompTIA is making in the Network+ upgrade ensures that this important certification remains current and relevant to the needs of individuals, employers, and the IT industry at large."
