many applications! A CD-R (Compact Disc-Recordable) is a thin
(1.2 mm) disc made of polycarbonate with a 120 mm or 80 mm
diameter that is mainly used to store music or data. However,
unlike conventional CD media, a CD-R has a core of dye instead
of metal. A standard CD-R has a storage capacity of 70 minutes
of audio or 700 MB of data. think pad
Non-standard CD-Rs are available with capacities of 79
minutes and 59.74 seconds/736, 966, 656 bytes (702 MB), which
they achieve by slightly exceeding the tolerances specified in
the Orange Book CD standards. Most CD-Rs on the market are of

Short for CD-ReWritable disk, CD-RW is a sort of CD disk
that allows you to write onto it in multiple or multi-sessions.
One of the drawbacks with regular CD-R disks is that you can
only write to them once. With CD-RW drives and disks, you can
treat the optical disk just like a floppy or hard disk, writing

The first CD-RW drives became available in mid-1997. They
can read CD-ROMs and can write onto today's CD-R disks, but
they cannot write on normal CD-ROMs. This means that disks
created with a CD-RW drive can only be read by a CD-RW drive.
However, a standard called MultiRead, has been developed
jointly by Philips Electronics and Hewlett-Packard, and enables
