Support & FAQs GoToMeeting : Web conferencing,
Online Meetings Future Lawyer
By Rick Georges May 26, 2006 “...I report that I love
it. This software sits in your task bar until you need it. The
host calls a meeting, and notifies participants of the web
location by phone or email. Participants login with a secure
code, and, presto, everyone is sharing the same screen,
participants can chat online, Skype users can talk to each
other, the host can transfer control of the screen to anyone,
and, if you have a vidcam, you can see the participants live. I
swear, there is no more excuse to own an automobile. I think I
will become a hermit in my den, and just have my wife bring me
food every now and then. You know, she will LOVE that. Who
wants to have a meeting Seriously, we should be doing Motion
practice with this software. Now, we just have to get the
Judges to use it.” travelstar

Support & FAQs Financial Times
The corporate way to enjoy company By Paul Taylor June 2,
2004 Expertcity transformed remote file sharing and personal
computer remote control when it introduced GoToMyPC a few years
ago. The ease of use and power of GoToMyPC delighted users,
including me, but irked corporate information technology
departments when they discovered employees surreptitiously
installing the software on their office machines. gateway
Now Expertcity, which was acquired by Citrix Systems six
months ago and has been renamed Citrix Online (www.citrix.com),
is hoping to redeem itself in the eyes of corporate IT
departments with a new service called GoToMeeting which
promises to cut the cost and complexity of holding web-based
meetings. laptop parts
In fact, as I discovered, GoToMeeting is an excellent tool
not just for big companies but also for small businesses and
connecting friends and family. Web conferencing services let
groups of people share documents, presentations and other
information over the internet. The worldwide market for web
conferencing services is expanding rapidly and is expected to
be worth about £1.5bn by 2009, according to Frost &
Sullivan, a consulting and market research firm. software
Currently the market is dominated by WebEx Meeting Center
(www.webex.com) which has a share of about 60 per cent, but
there are other services on offer from, among others,
Microsoft, Genesys and Raindance. They all support features
such as web-based presentations, document sharing and
annotation as well as online chat, but they take different
approaches to other features, for example meeting management
and integration with telephone conferencing. hard drives
GoToMeeting distinguishes itself by embracing a flat-fee
subscription model dubbed "All You Can Meet", so
groups can use the service as often and as long as they like
without incurring additional costs. Citrix Online believes this
predictable cost will be attractive, particularly to smaller
companies. electronics
Two versions are available: GoToMeeting is aimed at
individual professionals and small businesses and supports up
to 10 meeting attendees, while GoToMeeting Corporate is
designed for organizations requiring central reporting and
administration of multiple accounts. The corporate version
provides a minimum of five user accounts, with a maximum of 25
attendees at each meeting. canon
Currently Citrix Online is offering a free preview of
GoToMeeting and GoToMeeting Corporate which can be downloaded
from http://www.gotomeeting.com, so I decided to take a look at
the basic GoToMeeting. desktop pc
To download the small software application that powers the
service you need to register and set up a user name and
password. No configuration is necessary - setup is automatic
and you can host your first web conference immediately with
just a few mouse clicks or schedule an online conference for
later. desktop computers
Users can set up meetings through the GoToMeeting website by
sending an e-mail via Microsoft Outlook and through instant
messenger applications such as AOL Instant Messenger or MSN
Messenger - when you open GoToMeeting you are given a choice of
how you want to contact meeting attendees. think pad
Those you invite to attend a meeting do not have to be
GoToMeeting registered users themselves, but they do need to
download the software the first time - if you invite them via
an e-mail, the message contains an automatic link to the
download page so all they need to do is click on the link and
wait for the download to complete. repair
To test the service, I sent an e-mail invitation to another
of my e-mail addresses, called up the e-mail on my portable PC
and held a web conference with myself between my desktop and
portable machines. data recovery
The service itself lives up to its promise of being easy to
use yet powerful. GoToMeeting includes all the basic web
conferencing features such as desktop sharing, keyboard and
mouse control, chat, audio conferencing, and reporting and
tracking tools. cisco
Once up and running, your PC screen appears in front of all
attendees. They can use the internal instant messaging screen
or a conference phone call - set up automatically - to exchange
comments. During a session you can change presenters or give
control of your keyboard to another conference participant with
a single mouse click, using buttons at the top of the
GoToMeeting window that pops up on the right-hand side of your
screen. keyboard
With GoToMeeting, you can deliver presentations, perform
product demonstrations, collaborate on documents and securely
share confidential information online from anywhere at any time
in real time. Your meetings can be one-to-one or you can meet
with several people at once. monitor
Having used several web conferencing services in the past, I
found GoToMeeting to be generally simpler to use. This should
make it particularly appealing to beginners in this field.
Citrix Online also claims that GoToMeeting is the most secure
web conferencing service - offering true end-to-end 128-bit
encryption. It is also compatible with existing network
infrastructures and firewalls and, because it is a managed
service, installation and administration costs are minimal. desktop
But probably the most attractive feature of this new web
conferencing package is its flat-fee structure which, if
successful, may force other vendors to reconsider their pricing
models. The free trial lasts until the end of July. After that,
GoToMeeting will cost $49 a month or $468 a year per web
conference organizer. Eventually, web conferencing is likely to
become just another feature within other PC-based productivity
software applications. But if you want to explore the potential
of web conferencing today, Citrix Online's GoToMeeting
service is an excellent starting point whether you are an
individual user, small business or larger company. infosys

Inside Training
June 16 2006 By Michael Hickins The word
"commoditization" strikes fear in the heart of
Fortune 500 companies -- and well it should. Geoffrey Moore, a
futurist and consultant who practically invented the term
"disruptive technology, " said Thursday that most
large U.S. companies are losing their edge. memory
The world economy has been dominated by European and
American companies, who have set the ground rules for the last
hundred years. But Moore, giving a keynote speech at the launch
of Citrix' new GoToWebinar on-demand software for
organizing Webinars, said that cheap labor in India, China and
other developing nations is making it easier for more nimble
Asian companies to emerge and out-compete their larger, most
established counterparts. intel
"Developed economies no longer have home field
advantage, " he said. "We in the United States will
have to become radically more productive, or accept erosion in
our standard of living." as400
Moore told internetnews.com that small and medium businesses
(SMBs) are key to the United States. "The advantage
American companies have is they are faster to adopt new
practices, they're not afraid to succeed through trial and
error, " he said. Moore said that technologies that allow
smaller companies to market and distribute their products more
cheaply are critical to this movement. "Small business
doesn't need help with product innovation -- they're
quite good at that already, " Moore said. "But in
standard sales and marketing, they're at a
disadvantage." averatec
To that end, Moore praised the on-demand software delivery
model because it's simple and relatively inexpensive means
of reaching new markets and distribution channels. GoToWebinar,
offered by Citrix (Quote, Chart) specifically targets small and
medium sized businesses. Brian Donahoo, senior vice president
of Citrix Online, told internetnews.com that the company
already has seven thousand customers in the SMB space. hardware
"There's no technical sophistication required to
get up and running, " he said. That's key to the SMB
market. Merle Sandler, an analyst with Boston-based consultancy
IDC who follows the SMB sector, told internetnews.com that most
companies with fewer than 50 employees simply can't afford
an IT specialist. Executives in those companies have to use
technology on their own. "SMBs want simple and easy,
" she said. dual xeon

Support & FAQs Moore's New Law: Leverage
Simplicity And Relationships varBusiness.com
June 16 2006 By Lawrence M. Walsh Solution providers, take
heart: There's a role for you in the increasingly
globalized economy, and it's based on your long history of
customer relationships, says IT marketing guru Geoffrey Moore.
American IT companies have enjoyed a home-field advantage. If a
foreign company wanted to make its mark, it had to plant its
flag on U.S. soil and compete with the established market
leaders. Now, with ubiquitous broadband connectivity and
cheaper Asian labor markets, the center of the IT universe is
shifting. That will force American companies to play more away
games and learn to do businesses that grow 5 and 10 percent
rather than 20 to 30 percent. storage
Moore, author of best-selling marketing books "Crossing
the Chasm" and "Dealing with Darwin, " favors
American companies that focus on solving customer problems over
those that focus purely on technology innovation and product
refresh. seagate
"Operational excellence and customer intimacy will pay
off more and more, and product innovation will pay off less and
less, " said Moore, who is managing director of TCG
Advisors. Speaking at the Citrix Online launch of GoToWebinar
in New York City Thursday, Moore's comments were in line
with recent reports of R&D spending reductions by major IT
companies. Microsoft, Bell Labs and Sun Microsystems have each
reported marginal reductions in their R&D spending. To wit,
a 2005 Booz Allen Hamilton study found no direct relationship
between R&D spending and sales/revenue increases. computer sales
Ironically, what will make growth and competition difficult
for vendors is where opportunity awaits channel partners:
leveraging customer relationships and using technology as the
building block to solve problems. In fact, the leveling of the
global-playing field may actually benefit domestic resellers
who can leverage products with more competitive pricing and
margins by overseas suppliers. computer hardware
"This is the VAR's classic customer
advantage...customer intimacy, " Moore said. "This
history of the VAR channel, it has always delivered on customer
intimacy after the sale. The challenge is to develop markets
and develop a good book of business in the presales part of the
cycle." printers
Poor marketing is a common complaint by vendors about their
channel partners. VARBusiness 500 companies oftentimes have the
wherewithal to reach out to new customers and develop stronger
sales relationships. Small and midsize VARs often don't
have the expertise, resources and funding to market
effectively. technology
Future survival of channel companies, Moore said, depends on
better marketing, then building solutions that create
efficiencies for their customers. "VARs have always been
creative in crafting more solution sets. Where I want them to
be more creative right now is developing their marketing,
" he said. "Previously, VARs didn't spend any
money on marketing. Now, it's not that expensive, and
it's more flexible. The VARs that get it right will grow
significantly, and the VARs that don't will go out of
business." mainframe
The value of marketing and personal relationships isn't
lost on solution providers. Many of the leading channel
executives who gathered in New York City earlier this week for
the VARBusiness 500 Conference and Awards echoed Moore's
position that relationships and systems building is the best
path for success. samsung
