Garmin Uses Time Delay Feature
Author:
Stafff Two of Garmin's most popular handheld GPS receivers, the GPS III Plus ($571.80) and the GPS 12MAP ($425), have just joined other Garmin models that can navigate with loran Time Delay (TD) numbers as well as latitude and longitude.
Absolutely the most accurate way to convert log entries is to navigate to each spot using your loran, then save the location again as latitude and longitude coordinates on your GPS.
Mathematical conversions done by GPS units leave enormous room for distance error that you can eliminate by actually visiting the spot and saving it again.
The waterproof GPS III Plus and GPS 12MAP can accept downloaded cartography and information from Garmin's MapSource line of CD-ROMs, including its United States Waterways & Lights CD ($81.65).
Included trip and waypoint management functions let you transfer waypoints, routes and tracks between your PC and Garmin GPS.
