Thinkpad (AXcess News) Houston, TX - NASA Reconnaissance Orbiter has successfully reached Mars and began its preliminary orbit around the Red Planet late Friday, NASA scientists said.
winning science books about animals, anatomy, astronomy, earth science, and vehicles! This revised edition of Simon's book Mars (1987) includes new pictures from the Mars Orbiter Camera, the Hubble Space Telescope, and the Pathfinder lander, all launched since the publication of the earlier volume. The text also reflects NASA missions that gathered information about Mars in the late 1990s. In the same handsome format as Simon's other books on the planets, this volume offers a timely update of knowledge and speculation about the red planet. Carolyn Phelan
Microsoft Mission controllers at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif. were tense for nearly a half hour while the Mars Orbiter fired its rockets to brake long enough to put the NASA spacecraft into orbit.

Laptop Computers NASA engineers said the final burn was the trickiest part of its 300 million mile journey to the Red Planet, but that all went well, even the intentional blackout that occurred for six minutes as the NASA spacecraft circled Mars as planned.

Laptop Computer Orbiter's altitude was a key issue in the spacecraft's flight when it fired its rockets in the final burn. If the NASA spacecraft came in too low it would burn up and if it was too high it would miss Mars' orbit, a NASA scientist explained.
Even the Hubble Space Telescope can't show you all the details found on this new edition of our classic Mars globe. Created with more than 6, 000 images taken by the Viking orbiters, inch globe approximates the planet's true color and emphasizes the striking bright and dark variations seen through telescopes. Produced in cooperation with NASA and the U.S. Geological Survey, the globe includes official names for 140 features.
Desktop Computer The two-ton spacecraft is intended to orbitMars as close as 400 kilometers above the planet's surface.
Notebooks NASA Orbiteris designed to record high resolution pictures using the most advanced technology ever sent to Mars, and should begin collecting information in November.
Lenovo NASA said that Orbiter will be sending back more data than all the past space missions to Mars combined.
Hard Drive The images transmitted by the spacecraft will be the most detailed pictures ever returned to earth, taken with cameras capable of capturing the Mars rovers and anything else on the planet that is the size of a coffee table or larger.
Travelstar The NASA Reconnaissance Orbiter is part of a $720 million project to explore Mars.
Gateway The craft is intended to enter a 35-hour orbit of Mars and will remain there for seven months.
Laptop Parts It is designed to photograph the surface for evidence of water-altered rocks and search for future landing sites to send robotic and perhaps human explorers.
