Laptop Battery Marie Amato cant bear to go into a park anymore. She drives with her windows rolled up. She refuses to go to places with wild animals. And she certainly hasnt been back to a department store on Route 10 in Morris Plains, where she was attacked two years ago by a resident Canada goose.
Katz runs the company with 22 paid employees and 300 volunteers who give technical support to new users and are compensated with free memberships (remember those days at AOL ). He rents space in two AT&T data centers, one in Manhattan, another inSecaucus, N.J., with $700, 000 worth of computer equipment, end servers from Dell Computer and five IBM Unix servers. The $2 million annual payroll is his biggest expense.
Thinkpad Amato, of Linden, said she is still traumatized by the attack. She remembers the screeching sound and huge, flapping wings of the bird as it descended on her in the parking lot.
And then, of course, we have the Standalone Server product, which is called Acronis True Image Server for Windows or Linux and that will manage a single standalone server. What type of computers can we back up, because in a medium to a large sized, even some small sized businesses, who knows what kind of computers they have They may have laptops, they may have desktops, they may just have anything and everything
Microsoft "Im still in a panic," Amato said Thursday. "If I pass any place with them, I freak out."
The problem has become so bad in New Jersey that the U.S. Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife will allow some 11, 000 of the supposedly migratory birds to be killed by farmers and hunters. The problem is they like our state so much, they don't ever want to leave. The population of geese considered permanent residents has tripled in the past 10 years. How' ''Nearly 85, 000 geese can't be wrong. Visit New Jersey.''
Laptop Computers Amatos phobia is more extreme than most, but her complaint about Canada geese is not an uncommon one.
According to the indictment, Jones would steal various IBM and Penguin computer servers from Verisign's warehouse in Virginia and sell them to Johnson. Johnson would then sell the servers to several individuals, who would sometimes place them for sale on eBay. As a result of this scheme, the indictment alleges that Jones and Johnson caused Verisign to lose more than $120, 000 worth of computer equipment. In the indictment, Jones and Johnson are charged in three counts with causing the interstate transportation of stolen property, namely IBM 330 and 335 servers, in violation of 18 U.S.C.
Laptop Computer Goose attacks arent frequent, but the big birds are considered a nuisance primarily because of their tendency to eat large amounts of grass, which then goes through them like grass through a goose.

Desktop Computer For two years, the federal government has been looking into what should be done about the problem of a growing nationwide population of resident Canada geese. Last month, it issued a preliminary proposal that concluded the problem should be left in the hands of individual states.
Notebooks A Feb. 14 draft of the Interior Department Fish and Wildlife Services Environmental Impact Statement proposes "Alternative F" that state agencies should be allowed to take whatever action is deemed necessary, including rounding up and killing birds, without being required to get a permit from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Lenovo In 2000 the federal Division of Migratory Bird Management, which prepared the EIS, began holding meetings to gauge the level of concern. Hundreds attended its February 2000 meeting in Parsippany, at which both opponents and supporters of hunting and killing the birds aired their views.
Hard Drive "We reject the idea that population manipulation is going to resolve peoples conflicts with Canada geese," said Gregg Feigelson, director of the Coalition to Prevent the Destruction of Canada Geese, which attended the event in 2000. "It (Alternative F) really shows that the people in Fish and Wildlife are acting like politicians."
Travelstar "People do not want fewer geese in the areas theyre causing problems. They want no geese," Feigelson said. "And playing around with the population in a region is not going to solve the problems of someone with geese in their backyard."
Gateway Another round of meetings will be held to get comment on the EIS, said Jon Andrew, chief of the migratory bird management division, most likely including a session in New Jersey. No schedule has been set.
Laptop Parts The division contends that the alternative would give states more flexibility to deal with waterfowl problems specific to them.
Software "Rather than the federal government have a one size fits all solution to it, reduce the process," said Andrew.
Hard Drives Larry Herrighty, a spokesman for the state Division of Fish and Wildlife, said the state just began reviewing the EIS this week and has no position as yet.
Electronics From the outset, the state supported transferring goose control authority directly to landowners, Herrighty said. The state opposed any alternatives that would transfer USDAs permitting responsibilities to the state.
Canon Since 1999, state wildlife agencies have been required to apply for a special Canada goose permit in order to control their populations of the waterfowl. The permits can be used only March 11 and Aug. 31.
Desktop Pc In 2000, the state Division of Fish and Wildlife obtained a permit to conduct a study that linked resident Canada geese to the loss of wild rice growing along the Morris River in Cumberland County. The permit also allowed the state to round up and kill geese in that area in 2001 to let the rice stands regenerate, Herrighty said.
Desktop Computers Resident Canada geese, unlike migratory geese, dont travel far from where they were born. They were bred in the early 20th century for use as hunting decoys, and were released into the wild when live decoys were prohibited in 1935. Over the years, the birds have multiplied exponentially.
Think Pad "New Jersey is the, to borrow a term from 9-11, ground zero for resident Canada goose and people conflicts," because of the high density of both, Andrew said.
Repair In the spring, about 1,121,000 geese are in the Atlantic Flyway, which includes most of the East Coast of the United States and Canada. About 85,000 of those are in New Jersey alone, a number that has held steady through 2001, Herrighty said.
Data Recovery The Atlantic Flyway Council in 1999 set out to reduce geese numbers to 650,000, 41,000 in New Jersey, by 2005. That proposal prompted the EIS.
Cisco The geese are not considered an official public health risk because there is no definitive evidence linking them with disease, despite bacteria in their fecal matter.
Keyboard "Were finding that a lot of the fecal contamination in the river is due mostly to goose droppings," said George Van Orden, chairman of the Technical Advisory Committee for the Whippany River Watershed Action Committee.
Monitor Nina Austenberg, director of the Morris County chapter of the Humane Society of America, said that the organization opposes lethal measures, and feels that Alternative F will open the doorway for the state to use them.
Desktop "Traditionally the Fish and Wildlife people in New Jersey are in the dark ages," Austenberg said. "They tend to do things lethally"
Infosys The Humane Society and the Morris County Park Commission have relied heavily on egg-addling killing the embryo inside the egg without destroying the egg. Geese will lay new eggs to replace destroyed ones, but will try to hatch an addled one.
Refurbished Laptops The park commission has also tried alternatives such as roundups and a chemical goose repellent.
Wipro Charlie Zafonte, manager of safety and compliance for the Morris County Park System, said that the park commission has not taken a position on the EIS proposal, but that "anything that will streamline the process will help."
Lap Top "If it has to come to that (lethal measures) we have the permits to allow us to do it. Its certainly not our first choice," Zafonte said. "The bulk of what we do is the egg addling."
Refurbished The birds are largely monogamous, keeping one mate until they die. Males are often fiercely protective of their nests while their female partners brood the eggs.
Memory Amato, who was attacked by the male of a nesting pair of geese, said she doesnt know what she would want done to the animals.
Intel "I hate to see people go out and shoot them out of the air, but you cant give them birth control," Amato said.
As400 "My initial reaction to that is I dont think thatll be too workable," said Robert Voll, a deer hunter from Morris Plains who attended the meeting in Parsippany in 2000. "Its not just a statewide problem but a multi-state problem."
Averatec "If we created it why shouldnt we just get rid of it, particularly if theres so many negatives with these animals?" Voll said.
Hardware Matt Manzi, assistant superintendent of the Brooklake Country Club in Florham Park, uses border collies and noise guns to scare off the birds. The club typically spends about $2,500 a year to clean up after the birds, he said.
Dual Xeon "I dont know what the best solution is," he said. "I dont want to say a roundup and killing, but that seems like the choice were going to have."
