Though Apple did its homework before deciding on the switch to Intel microprocessors, it can't second-guess the market.

Desktop Computer Apple's focus in switching to Intel chips is to lower temperatures of high-performance chips that are powerful enough to power notebook computers and smaller devices, like Apple's Mac mini.
Notebooks Apple's current chip suppliers, International Business Machines (NYSE: IBM) and Freescale Semiconductor, a Motorola (NYSE: MOT) spinoff, have been unable to produce a 3 gigahertz chip that matches the processing speed of the newer Intel chips. So Apple's move to Intel was really driven by capacity limitations, even though its risky to change chip suppliers.
Lenovo Apple founder, Steve Jobs, spoke to reporters at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference at Moscone West in downtown San Francisco, saying the computer manufacturer envisioned new, more powerful products but that it needed more powerful chip sets to develop them.Intel Chief Executive Paul Otellini appeared with Jobs at the Conference saying that Apple Computer was an innovative company and that Intel was very pleased to be teaming up with the company.
