BEA Supports Intel Multi-core Processor Roadmap

BEA Eliminates Premium Pricing to Help Drive Adoption of Multi-Core Processor Systems and to Help Companies Turn Frozen Assets into Enterprise Liquid Assets

SAN JOSE, Calif. August 23, 2005 BEA Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: BEAS) today announced it is supporting the Intel roadmap for multi-core server platforms and that BEA is eliminating any premium pricing for dual core processors for its entire software product portfolio. Effective immediately, BEA pricing for dual core CPUs and dual core-based systems, including the new Intel Pentium processor Extreme Edition, and the forthcoming dual-core Intel Xeon processors and Intel Itanium 2 processors, will be the same as single core CPU licensing.
Intel multi-core products and platforms are designed to provide immediate advantages and new capabilities for business. BEA JRockit on the Intel-based server platforms provides customers with the opportunity to take advantage of the superior performance of this Java Virtual Machine jointly optimized for Intel-based servers by delivering exceptional levels of performance, scalability and reliability for rapid development and deployment of mission-critical applications on Intel-based server platforms.

With the restructured pricing, BEA and Intel are teaming to help provide enterprise customers with the opportunity to deploy service-oriented applications now at a lower cost, without sacrificing performance or reliability. Together, BEA and Intel have created an application infrastructure platform that is designed to enable enterprise customers to successfully build, extend and integrate applications to increase business flexibility, reduce IT complexity and lower costs.

BEA is working hard with companies like Intel to help customers realize the benefits of Enterprise Liquid Assets across both the Java and .Net platforms, and also across multiple hardware and operating system options, said Bill Roth, vice president of product marketing, BEA Systems, Inc. The elimination of premium pricing for dual core systems underlies our commitment to providing a competitive pricing advantage against other higher priced solutions in the market. In addition, our new restructured pricing emphasizes our support for the Intel roadmap and clearly articulates our leadership position regarding the issue of dual core pricing, making it easier for customers to focus on innovation versus budget and integration issues.

BEA is helping usher in the new era of computing based on Intels multi-core processor-based platforms, said Kirk Skaugen, general manager, Server Platforms Group, Intel Corporation. Our multi-core processors coupled with BEA JRockit help provide a powerful way for customers to achieve scalable and reliable performance on flexible Intel server platforms at unprecedented new levels of value.
