Qurb Complements Server-Based Solutions to Keep Spam at Bay

''Belt-and-Suspenders'' Approach to Fighting Spam Benefits Enterprises

SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 12, 2004--Qurb, Inc., a provider of award-winning anti-spam and e-mail security software, today announced that its software is being deployed together with many popular anti-spam servers and gateways at large enterprises. Installing anti-spam products at both the server and the desktop, best described as a "belt-and-suspenders" approach, enables enterprises to eliminate known spam at the network perimeter. Qurb (pronounced "curb"), a lightweight and easy-to-use desktop solution, is uniquely suited to working behind the firewall to give individuals full control over their e-mail without increasing IT support costs.
Server-side anti-spam products can eliminate the most egregious messages at the network perimeter to minimize storage costs. However, individual mail preferences make it tricky to correctly remove suspicious messages without blocking legitimate mail. As a result, there is an unexpected cost to server-side products in the impact on IT resources as end-users contact IT staff to search for important e-mail messages that they think may have been lost. Qurb's ease-of-use, ease-of-deployment and effectiveness at the desktop balance server solutions and lighten the resource load on IT staff.

"Implementing a gateway server based anti-spam solution has been integral to keeping our spam problem under control, but did not completely eradicate the problem of spam 100%," said Paul Wolf, network specialist of Exeter Health Resources, a New Hampshire-based health care and wellness group. "Combining Trend Micro's solution to eliminate known spam at the gateway server level, with Qurb on individual desktop computers has been the most effective way to give our end-users control over their inbound e-mail without risking the loss of legitimate e-mail messages."

Qurb allows for customization at the desktop, integrating directly with Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express. "Qurb's identity-based anti-spam solution works like Caller ID for e-mail, quietly filtering messages from unknown senders," explained Felix Lin, CEO and co-founder of Qurb. "With spam a major concern for any business, a key benefit to deploying Qurb is how seamlessly the software complements server-based solutions that catch highly identifiable spam before it enters the system, while empowering individuals with control over their personal communication."
