IBM Acquires DataPower, Provider of Security Products

Thinkpad (AXcess News) Armonk NY - International Business Machines (NYSE: IBM) said it has acquire Massachusetts-based DataPower, a provider of specialized tools for XML message processing, to make data and software applications interoperate better.

Lenovo Robert LeBlanc, general manager, WebSphere, IBM Software Group was quoted in a news release yesterday as saying, "With more companies taking a modular approach to running business processes through a Services Oriented Architecture, there's a greater need for technology to deal with the commensurate increases in Web services traffic, which can overburden IT systems. DataPower's products address these challenges."

Hard Drive Shares of IBM closed Wednesday at $84.17, up 69 cents on slightly higher than average trading volume.
