Latest Market Share Data Shows BEA in Top Three Ranking for Overall Application Integration and Middleware and Portal Market, and Three Market Segments

BEA Positioned in Leaders Quadrants in Integration Backbone Software, Enterprise Application Servers and Horizontal Portal Products Research

SAN JOSE, Calif. May 26, 2005 BEA Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: BEAS) today announced Gartner, Inc. has positioned BEA as one of the top three vendors in three different markets for 2004 application servers, portal products and application platform suites as well as the overall AIM (application, integration and middleware) and portal market. The ranking is based on license revenue market share.
Gartner's Market Share: AIM and Portal Software, Worldwide, 2004, Preliminary* report shows BEA at 21.7 percent worldwide share for application servers in 2004; 11.6 percent worldwide share for application platform suites; 8.9 percent worldwide share for portal products; and 7.2 percent worldwide share in the more than $6.7 billion application integration and middleware market.

"We believe the market share results confirm BEA's position as a leading independent middleware provider and the success of BEA's flagship WebLogic(tm) product line as a diversified infrastructure platform for building and deploying enterprise applications, said Alfred Chuang, chairman and chief executive officer, BEA Systems, Inc. "BEA was one of the early pioneers of the application server market and one of the first to deliver an integrated application platform. Unlike other vendors that pursue an integrated software stack strategy, BEA is driving toward the future of independent service-oriented architectures that designed to handle almost any business process, application or service needed to run customers' businesses.

BEA also announced that Gartner, Inc. has positioned BEA in the leaders quadrants of the Magic Quadrant for Integration Backbone Software, 1H05, the Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Application Servers, 2Q05, and the Magic Quadrant for Horizontal Portal Products 2005. *

Gartner, Inc. assesses vendors on their vision and ability to execute. The research firm defines "Leaders" as vendors who are performing well today, have a clear vision of market direction and are actively building competencies to sustain their leadership position in the market.
