Net to Net Technologies Enters Thriving Broadband Loop Carrier Market with New POTS Solution
IP DSLAM Pioneer now delivers full Triple Play capabilities with integrated voice solutions
PORTSMOUTH, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 14, 2004--
Net to Net Technologies, the leading provider of Ethernet-based IP Broadband Access and Transport solutions, today announced new POTS technology that will allow the company to enter the exploding Broadband Loop Carrier (BLC) market. This new technology allows telephone companies to deliver all three "Triple Play" services (voice, video, and data) using Net to Net's IP DSLAMs and MultiService Loop Carrier solutions without the need for other external equipment.
Net to Net has produced IP-based DSL solutions for over six years, first shipping products in 1999, at a time when most DSLAMs and DLC product were solely based on ATM and TDM technology. Since that time, packet-based IP solutions have become more widespread. Infonetics Research recently reported the Broadband Loop Carrier (BLC) market, which describes the newest generation of packet-based access network products capable of providing triple play services over both copper and fiber facilities, grew at a blistering 724 percent on an annualized basis. The BLC market share study also shows North American DSL port shipment growing at a 529 percent annual pace, voice ports at 672 percent, and revenue at 724 percent.
The introduction of Net to Net's new POTS capability will allow Net to Net to better penetrate the rapidly expanding BLC market. Net to Net currently sells its IP DSLAMs to over 100 North American U.S. ILECs (Independent Local Exchange Carriers), which provides a significant customer base for the new technology. Additionally, nearly half of Net to Net's annual revenue comes from international customers, providing even more opportunity for the new POTS solution.
"We have been very successful the last six years selling our multi-technology IP-based DSL products on a worldwide basis," stated Ken Latimer, Chairman and CEO for Net to Net. "Our new POTS module will have an immediate home in many of our existing customer networks, and will allow us to better penetrate new markets and recognize new revenue opportunities. Our customers now have the ability to deliver full Triple Play services over a single IP-based access network."
Net to Net's new POTS module, the PAM64-48, is a 48-port POTS module for Net to Net's IPD12000E and IPD4000E IP DSLAMs. Consistent with Net to Net's pioneering IP-based approach, the PAM64-48 employs Voice over IP (VoIP) technology on the module, converting standard analog POTS signals to IP packets and delivering upstream to a VoIP gateway or softswitch. Standard MGCP and SIP signaling protocols will also be used to provide VoIP interoperability. Additionally, Net to Net's IP Quality of Service (QoS) capability ensures that voice packets are given appropriate priority through the IP network, maintaining voice quality.
Net to Net will port this new POTS capability to additional platforms and products, including combination cards (ADSL2+ with POTS and line Splitter) and ADSL2+ MicroDSLAMs later this calendar year. Available in the third quarter of 2004, the PAM64-48 will be available either directly from Net to Net or through its IPartner resellers.
