Managed Content Delivery Company Venation Introduces V-WEB 4.0, V-SERVE Software at TechEd 2004

New Solutions Build on Caching and Acceleration Features of Microsoft's ISA Server

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 24, 2004--

Building on its demonstrated success in the European market, Venation today announced the North American availability of its V-WEB and V-SERVE software products at Microsoft TechEd 2004. The company also highlighted the latest version of its V-WEB software, V-WEB 4.0. Built on Microsoft's ISA Server 2004, Venation's technology provides a powerful and cost effective platform for accelerating business critical applications and content and improving WAN and application performance.
With the growing emergence of Web-based applications and increases in HTTP traffic, many companies face significant challenges in delivering content quickly and securely to their users and customers in distributed network environments. These factors combine to reduce user productivity and customer satisfaction, as well as lowering the enterprise's confidence in their ability to deploy network-based applications. Venation helps to solve this problem by streamlining content delivery and storing information where it is needed - close to the user for faster access and enhanced productivity.

Venation's products, V-WEB and V-SERVE accelerate the retrieval and provisioning of Web content. They provide a broad range of functionality including intelligent and proactive caching, compression, URL filtering and blocking, pre-loading of specified content, and centralized real-time management. When deployed together, V-WEB and V-SERVE deliver an enterprise-wide managed content delivery solution - capable of caching dynamic and even authenticated content, further improving response times and avoiding unnecessary network traffic.

New Features and Functionality

New enhancements to V-WEB 4.0 include support for Microsoft ISA Server 2004, upgraded management functionality and the ability to accelerate dynamic and other "non-cacheable" content.

With V-WEB 4.0, Venation's customers get a real-time view of Internet/intranet activity and performance, accelerated HTTP and other network traffic, dramatic improvements in WAN bandwidth utilization, control over unwanted Internet access, and the security benefits of the Microsoft ISA Server in one easy to install platform.

V-SERVE removes the bottlenecks typically experienced with Web and application servers by handling all incoming Web content requests and compressing and caching outgoing content. By adding powerful extensions to Microsoft ISA Server, which runs as a reverse proxy in front of the Web server, V-SERVE is able to cache and compress content that would otherwise be impossible to cache, or would be served to the user in an uncompressed state.

"Corporate enterprises are increasingly relying on intranets and Web-based applications as mission-critical business tools," said Andy Horn, CEO of Venation. "Accelerating access to this content for employees at the edge of distributed networks without the need to add bandwidth is a compelling value proposition."

Rubber products manufacturer Avon Rubber has significantly increased the performance of its infrastructure with Venation's managed content delivery solution.

"We have already seen a 25 percent drop in HTTP traffic across our WAN since installing V-WEB," Avon Rubber's Messaging Systems Manager Rob Litherland said. "Our policy at Avon is to extract maximum performance and value from our existing infrastructure. Despite significant extra demands on our WAN bandwidth requirements recently, V-WEB has enabled us to retain our existing network infrastructure and maintain a high performance service to users."

Company Unveils North American Roadmap

Complementing its North American product roll-out, Venation also provided a glimpse into its North American expansion plans, designed to elevate its global market share in the estimated $3 billion content delivery market (NetsEdge Research Group). The roadmap includes opening its United States headquarters in Q2 2004, as well as a channel partner development program. The company's new U.S. operations will also support Venation's role as a Microsoft ISV delivering enhancements in network and Web application performance on Microsoft's ISA Server 2004.

Venation and Microsoft ISA Server

Venation's products are a key complement to Microsoft's ISA Server solution set - providing a unified acceleration, caching, and security solution. Microsoft ISA Server 2004 is the advanced application layer firewall, VPN, and Web cache solution that enables companies to easily maximize existing IT investments by improving network security and performance.

Pricing and Availability

A typical 5-site, 500-user installation starts at around $15,000. Venation's V-SERVE product is available now. General availability of V-WEB 4.0 is expected in July.
