PCIQ IT Professional 19 Jul @ 09:46 When you switch on your
computer the first thing it does is go through a sequence of
checks called Power On Self Test (POST). Computers all used to
have a tiny internal speaker and this would make a beep when
the POST was completed but these days that does not always
happen. Anyway, if the POST does not complete you get the
stuck on symptoms you describe. I have a little
plug in card that tells you the POST code where the sequence
stalls but this actually is not all that useful. The problem
pretty much has to be either your motherboard, processor or RAM
memory. If you tested your RAM (in another computer ) then it
is either the motherboard or the processor. thinkpad
If you try to replace a processor/motherboard you need to
make sure that the socket type on the motherboard/processor
matches the replacement. That can be difficult if your computer
is more than around two years old. For desktop computers
running XP or later, I favour a gut upgrade where I
replace the motherboard, processor and RAM and you get a
like new computer. microsoft

Professional 19 Jul @ 10:01 As it s a Saturday... A problem
with the English language is that spellings are pretty much
fixed whilst pronunciation changes over time. A classic example
is the city of Leicester which is nowadays pronounced
Lester . In Shakespeare s time it is thought
that nothing was pronounced much more like
noting (in the sense of noticing, observing) so the
title of Shakespeare s play Much Ado about
Nothing was actually a pun that doesn t work in
contemporary English because of changes in pronunciation. laptop computers

Posted by: joe d. 20 Jul @ 05:07 thanks my dad used the

Professional PCIQ IT Professional 20 Jul @ 10:27 I take it you
mean that your processor was faulty Your Dad won t be able
to buy a new AMD Athlon 2800+ as they are obscelete but he
might be able to pick one up second-hand. I think all Athlon
2800+ processors were Socket A, but I might be wrong. When
replacing a processor you generally only need to match the
socket. So if you have a Socket A motherboard then any Socket A
processor would do. You should also renew the heat sink
compound that goes between the processor and the heat sink -
you can get this from Maplins. desktop computer

IT Professional 20 Jul @ 10:29 In my experience modern CPUs
NEVER fail on their own - theres always something else which
blows and takes them out, usually PSU, sometimes the
motherboard. Only exception is when they ve been fractured
due to mishandling or damaged due to static - again
mishandling. Overheating could cause one to fail - but modern
machines usually shut down first due to the safety cutouts.
I d be inclined to look a bit deeper at this as you
don t want the replacement CPU to blow as well notebooks

17:28 If its a P4 socket 478 you may be able to find a board,
if its a socket 423 then no chance. It may just be worth
repairing, especially if you can find one with an Intel chipset
that may not need a reinstall of windows. lenovo

After a number of years working within the business sector in
IT Departments, I decided to branch out on my own. I became
increasingly aware that many companies were getting IT Support
without having a true understanding of what was being done or
why. The company prides itself on offering an honest value for
money service with full and easy to understand explanations of
work required or advised. hard drive
The company will never recommend unnecessary work or
components and always puts the client needs and/or requirements
first. The client base has increased over the years mainly by
word of mouth and referrals and includes Travel Agents,
Stationers, Tailors, Doctors, Dentists, Property Consultants as
well as many residential customers. travelstar

Customer Reviews
By Wyn J. - 30 Jul 07 It needs to be taken in context. He
was responsive and friendly and helpful. It would have been
fine had he managed to recover the information I was most
concerned about and value for money. He was not able to do this
and I am satisfied that was not his fault. However, I requested
he give me the entire image of the computer s
hard dirve that he took before trying to recover information.
This was because I couldn t understand why some information
had been recovered and not other stuff that was in the same
place. He agreed to post this to me but never did. I emailed
him several times and he ignored these. So if he had posted me
the image so I could see for myself what was missing and what
was not the experience would have been a lot better. He also
tried to fix the laptop but it has just stopped working again.
So I ended up with very little for 20. hosting
By Barbara O. - 02 May 07 Within 3 minutes of speaking to
Darren he put my mind at rest and arranged to call and sort the
problem out. I am very pleased with the work he has done and am
awaiting further work being carried out. netfinity
