Virtuozzo has allowed us to get more use from our server farm and stretch our hardware dollars, Robert Berry, director of technical services for the publisher. Before deploying Virtuozzo, we noticed that the CPU utilization on each physical server was negligible. When we added Virtuozzo software to a couple of physical machines, we were able to add multiple virtual web servers to a single physical machine and easily achieve higher CPU utilization. laptop battery

Homes Land has 13 Virtuozzo hardware nodes running Windows Server 2003, with a mixture of 32-bit and 64-bit environments. Because of the ability to densely populate multiple virtual environments onto a single server, the company believes it can increase utilization even further. thinkpad

We are nowhere near the completion of our deployment of Virtuozzo, said Berry. Because of Virtuozzo s high density capabilities, many of our hardware nodes could easily handle many more virtual environments. microsoft

Homes Land has configured the Virtuozzo virtual environments so that web servers are mirrored across different hardware, thereby providing failover redundancy and making migrations and upgrades easier to manage. laptop computers

We had an unexpected result from our Cold Fusion application servers. By increasing the number of instances of Cold Fusion, we improved response times, thereby serving pages faster even though we were putting more load on the CPU s, said Berry. laptop computer

With 12 web servers spread across four physical machines, the company has saved more than $80, 000 on hardware alone, compared with if it had deployed individual physical servers. Savings on space, cooling, and management further add to the ROI (return-on-investment) associated with Virtuozzo. desktop computer

SWsoft Virtuozzo dynamically partitions a single Windows or Linux operating system instance into highly efficient and scalable virtual environments. Virtuozzo includes patented technology that enables density of up to hundreds of virtual environments per physical server. notebooks

Unlike virtual machines and hypervisors, Virtuozzo addresses the challenges of operating system sprawl faced by today s data centers. Its unique architecture and management tools make Virtuozzo the ideal solution for provisioning, monitoring and managing virtualized server resources. lenovo

SWsoft Acquires Sphera to Accelerate Software-as-a-Service Delivery

September 18, 2007 HERNDON, Va., September 18, 2007 SWsoft, Inc. has acquired Sphera Corporation to accelerate the delivery of software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions for consumers, businesses and service providers. SWsoft will merge Sphera with its automation software business unit that already powers tens of thousands of servers for businesses and service providers worldwide. desktops

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. Sphera provides automation, provisioning, virtualization and management software for hosting companies, telecoms and enterprises. It has been a pioneer in developing SaaS and hosting solutions since its founding in 1999 and has partnerships with IBM, Microsoft and Mitsui. Leading telecom providers such as AT T, Japan Telecom and Telecom Italia utilize Sphera s platform to serve 150, 000 businesses and more than one million end users with hosted applications. cognos

Industry analyst IDC predicts SaaS software revenues will reach $10.7 billion by 2009.1 We re building a broader solution set and customer base as a technology provider -- using a standards-based approach -- to enable the delivery of SaaS by application developers and service providers, said Serguei Beloussov, CEO of SWsoft. Through our three recent acquisitions, we estimate that we will be able to reach nearly 1.5 million additional business customers through our ISV and service provider partners. hosting

Under a SaaS model, software is accessed on demand and is made available to users over a network, typically the Internet, instead of as a boxed product. The software programs are hosted by a service provider, with benefits that include automatic updates and easier administration, global accessibility, along with compatibility since all users have the same software -- not different versions. netfinity

SWsoft and Sphera are two very important Microsoft industry partners, said John Zanni, managing director of worldwide hosting in the communications sector at Microsoft Corp. The combined company broadens not only the solution set, but also the customers and markets that Microsoft can reach. internet

This move is a good fit and positions SWsoft and Sphera to lead in the delivery of SaaS technology used by software developers and service providers that, in turn, can deliver software-as-a-service to their business customers, said Melanie Posey, research director, IDC. cheap computer

With the full resources of SWsoft behind Sphera s groundbreaking work and success in SaaS deployments, we will be able to expand more rapidly and on a greater scale, said Michael Gold, the former CEO of Sphera, who will now lead SWsoft s SaaS company-wide initiative as general manager. digital camera

Using Sphera technology, service providers and their channel partners manage a portfolio of hosted SaaS applications that are bundled and sold to businesses. Also, Sphera helps ISVs transform traditional software programs to SaaS offerings with no additional application development. With some 50 employees, Sphera is headquartered in Denver with global offices in Tel-Aviv, Israel and Tokyo, Japan. printer

Virtualization Technology from SWsoft Helps Software Maker Save Money, Improve Service

September 19, 2007 System Automation Corporation Replaces Servers with Virtual Environments from SWsoft Virtuozzo HERNDON, Va., September 19, 2007 - System Automation Corporation is using SWsoft Virtuozzo to save money, while providing a very flexible testing platform that is easy to convert into production for the government agencies that purchase its MyLicense Suite software for enterprise regulation management. Now, it takes minutes to set up virtual environments, and the MyLicense software can be updated across virtual environments in a matter of minutes, which previously had been impossible. data storage

System Automation develops MyLicense Suite software that is used by more than 400 government entities in 23 states to manage, for example, teacher and nurse licenses. The company is realizing cost savings of about $2, 000 per server by replacing physical servers with virtual servers created with SWsoft Virtuozzo software. hitachi

System Automation is also saving money by reducing the time required to manage the virtual data center. A full-time administrator now spends only a quarter of their time managing the virtual environments by taking advantage of the Virtuozzo management tools function. Now, with Virtuozzo a change can be made and deployed across all of the virtual environments at once using the template function. rational

We e delivering a much higher quality product to our customers because we e able to use the templates and management tools in Virtuozzo, said Craig Callan, network engineer, System Automation Corporation. He is responsible for providing network infrastructure support at the company based in Columbia, Maryland with 85 employees. websphere

Backing up virtual machines from within each virtual machine is thus the preferred approach in a production environment, providing the greatest opportunity for recovery. Since these virtual machines can be running server operating systems such as Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, the backup solution must be designed and licensed to run on these operating systems. (Some desktop backup solutions simply don't work on server operating systems.)
