Staff Dr. Bob Shipp, Sport Fishing's new Fish Facts expert, has the credentials and experience to do the job. Shipp, who received his Ph.D. from Florida State University, served as associate director of the Dauphin Island Sea Lab for 10 years. He is currently chairman of the Department of Marine Sciences at the University of South Alabama, director of the Alabama Center for Estuarine Studies, member and past chairman of the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council and science advisor to the Coastal Conservation Association of Alabama. His popular semi-technical guide, Dr. Bob Shipp's Guide to Fishes of the Gulf of Mexico (in its fifth printing), is used by the National Marine Fisheries Service and U.S. Coast Guard for field identification.
Shipp says that although he's taught classes on fishes for more than 30 years, he learns something with almost every letter and question about something someone's seen or caught.
