Oblix, OctetString Deliver Virtual Directory Technology with COREid 7
Oblix will resell OctetString's Virtual Directory Engine technology to provide a "Data Anywhere" access layer for COREid 7
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. & CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 21, 2004-- OctetString, the leading developer of virtual directory technology, and Oblix, the leading developer of identity-based security solutions, announced an alliance that includes a reseller agreement and technology integration. Oblix will offer OctetString's Virtual Directory Engine (VDE) software as a component of its COREid(TM) 7 solution for identity management, enabling organizations to securely manage the lifecycle of employees and extranet users, regardless of where their profile data might exist.
OctetString's virtual directory technology can significantly reduce complexity for enterprises with multiple sources of user identity information. The pairing of VDE with COREid will help Oblix customers accelerate the deployment of identity-based security solutions and reap an earlier return on their technology investments.
"As enterprises become increasingly aware of the strategic value of their identity infrastructure, they continue to seek ways to leverage existing directories, databases and other repositories where identity data is stored for use in application access," said Earl L. Perkins, Vice President, Security & Risk Strategies for the research and analysis firm META Group. "Partnerships among vendors that exploit the extraction, routing and mapping of this data for security and compliance purposes represent a best practice approach in identity management."
As part of Oblix's new "Data Anywhere" access layer in COREid 7, OctetString's virtual directory technology gives COREid the ability to connect to multiple LDAP directories, relational databases, and text files. Each of the underlying data stores can be normalized and presented as a single large unified LDAP directory with full read-write and user management capabilities. This data layer also connects to the workflow and provisioning functionality in COREid Provisioning.
"Organizations need to regain control and visibility into identity related information, particularly in the most decentralized information technology environments," said Prakash Ramamurthy, vice president of products and technology, Oblix. "Through our alliance with OctetString, Oblix can provide customers with a virtual directory solution that provides the industry-leading performance and flexibility that our customers need to cost-effectively manage identity data across their organizations.
"With several customers already benefiting from using both technologies in their environment, it is clear that this combined offer will give customers the flexibility they need to move their COREid projects forward on-time and on-budget," said Clayton Donley, CTO, OctetString.
