Former Symantec And Brightmail Executive To Lead Webroot Sales
Leading Anti-Spyware Software Provider Names Michael D. Conner to SVP of Sales
BOULDER, CO, March 1, 2005 Webroot Software, Inc., the leading provider of anti-spyware software and other security technologies for consumers and enterprises, today announced it has appointed Michael D. Conner, a 20-year veteran of sales and marketing in the security software industry, to the newly created position of Senior Vice President of Sales.
Conner joins Webroot from Symantec Incorporated where he held the position of Vice President of Gateway Solution Sales and managed the global sales strategy for the companys Network and Gateway business unit. He joined Symantec after the company acquired Brightmail where Conner served as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales. At Brightmail, Conner was responsible for all sales, technical support and other customer facing functions.
Webroot has a bright and shining future ahead in both anti-spyware and myriad other security solutions facing both enterprises and consumers, said David Moll, CEO of Webroot. As we begin to realize that future, we will need experienced and talented executives to provide the strategy and manage its execution and we are pleased to have Mike Conner join our team as one of those executives.
Before joining Brightmail, Conner was responsible for all sales and marketing, technical support, finance and human resources efforts in North America for Trend Micro, serving as a company Senior Vice President and President of its North American Operations. Earlier in his career, Conner directed the sales function for a number of leading Silicon Valley, including Gold Disk, Borland and Software Publishing Corporation.
The timeline of the software security industry is dotted with small companies that turned into great companies because they saw a threat and delivered a solution before the rest of the world knew any better, said Conner. Webroot is one of those companies and the challenge ahead is to demonstrate to the market Webroots differentiation and capitalize on it; a challenge I am eager to tackle.
A three-time recipient of PC Magazines Editors Choice Award, Webroot Spy Sweeper has an installed base of more than five million users and is powered by Phileas, Webroots automated spyware research system designed specifically to root out and identify spyware anywhere on the Web. Webroot has also received great acclaim for its corporate anti-spyware counterpart, Webroot Spy Sweeper Enterprise, which enables administrators to centrally manage security threats across enterprises of any size and has sold more than one million licenses of its solution since its launch in June 2004.
