Laptop Battery Trenton, NJ Representative Scott Garrett was the ONLY New Jersey Representative to vote against an effort to strip Arctic Refuge drilling language from an energy bill now being debated by the House of Representatives. The measure was defeated last evening by a vote of 228-197.
Our senators voted overwhelmingly "against" oil drilling in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge ("Senate rejects Bush's plans for Arctic oil drilling, " 13, April 19). It's pretty clear that this Senate vote was all based on appearances, no substance. politics that adversely affects each person.
Thinkpad Scott Garrett said he was an environmentalist when he ran for Congress, said Dennis Schvejda, Conservation Director for the NJ Chapter of the Sierra Club. Yesterday Garrett had a chance to vote like one, and failed miserably.

Desktop Computer Ive worked closely with the NJ delegation since the 103rd Congress. Our Republicans and Democrats have a great record of working together and voting for environmental protection. When looking at someones record, I like to say its half full rather than half-empty, but in Garretts case, the glass is completely empty. Garrett is out of step with the NJ delegation, and isnt representing the environmental views of his constituents. Voting against fuel conservation, voting to drill the Arctic Refuge, failing to support Highlands preservation and failing to support his fellow NJ Congressmans efforts to protect wildlife, gives Rep. Garrett the dubious honor of being NJs Perfect Zero on the environment, concluded Schvejda.
