Symantec LiveUpdate Administrator Brings Policy Compliance To Intel Active Management Technology

LiveUpdate Administrator for Intel AMT 1.0 Provides Security to Systems Regardless of the State of the Operating System

CUPERTINO, Calif. - May 26, 2005 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the global leader in information security, today announced plans to support Intel Active Management Technology (Intel AMT). Symantec LiveUpdate Administrator for Intel AMT 1.0 will offer administrators the ability to proactively determine and establish end-point compliancy using Intel AMT to access and monitor distributed systems regardless of the state of their operating systems. LiveUpdate Administrator for AMT 1.0 is scheduled to be available as a free download from the Symantec Web site in late June 2005.
LiveUpdate Administrator will update Intel AMT with the latest LiveUpdate information, including the version of Symantec AntiVirus definitions on the machine being checked and the patch level of all installed Symantec products. Using LiveUpdate Administrator for Intel AMT, administrators will be able to query and display all information for all Symantec products on all machines that support Intel AMT and have LiveUpdate Administrator for Windows 2.7 or higher installed.

"Bringing the Symantec LiveUpdate Administrator functionality to the Intel AMT Professional Business Platform will immensely help IT managers with remote management of end-point device policy compliance," said Rowan Trollope, vice president of security management solutions at Symantec. "Symantec is committed to securing its customers and the enterprise, and Intel AMT allows us to offer this security whether a system is powered on or off."

Intel AMT prevents intentional or inadvertent removal of inventory, remote control or virus-protection agents. The technology features an out-of-band link that is independent of the operating system, allowing IT managers to access machines even when the operating system is unavailable or inoperative.

"For IT managers, Intel Active Management Technology will significantly improve asset management, while reducing system downtime, technical assistance visits and operational costs," said Gregory Bryant, director, Intel Digital Office Platform Division. "Symantec LiveUpdate Administrator for Intel AMT is a key component to ensure the latest Symantec security patches and virus definitions are applied on end point devices, allowing IT managers to take full advantage of the capabilities of Intel AMT."
