County Aims To Take Bite Out Of West Nile

Laptop Battery It's that time of year again. Time for warm, carefree summer days, time for sunny afternoons and tall glasses of cold lemonade. Oh, and time to make sure all stagnant water is dumped to prevent the spawning of mosquitoes that may carry and spread the West Nile virus.

"If the weather in San Francisco gets warmer over the next few weeks, we anticipate increased mosquito breeding activity, " said Bhatia. A girl from Huntington Beach is the first juvenile from Orange County to contract the West Nile virus this year, health officials announced Tuesday. So far, 15 cases of West Nile virus have been reported in Orange County this year. California's number of West Nile cases topped 800 on Friday, with Sacramento County still leading all counties in the state 170 cases.

Thinkpad "Eliminating the standing water eliminates the breeding areas, and that is what we want to do," said Dennis Mahoney, general supervisor of the Salem County Mosquito Commission.

The state raises four other species of fish for mosquito control as well. In total, 250, 000 fish were available this year at no cost to counties across New Jersey. Since the outbreak of West Nile in recent years, Kent said, more counties have joined the fish program. Last year, 34 people in New Jersey contracted the virus, which is carried by birds. Three of those cases came from Mercer County. The county has not discovered any evidence of West Nile this year.

Microsoft Mahoney explained how mosquitoes lay their eggs in stagnant water, then the eggs become larva that remain in the water until the young mosquitoes mature and fly off.

West Nile Virus causes some victims to become seriously ill with encephalitis or meningitis, according to Cuyahoga County health officials. But many people have been infected without knowing. "Many victims have no symptoms and experience no ill effects from West Nile Virus, " Picker said. "Upon exposure, the chances of contracting West Nile Virus are rare." He also said that pesticides are sprayed 20 feet from a truck in the street and never make it to back yards.

Laptop Computers Therefore, controlling the breeding will ultimately control the spread.

. (AXcess News) Reports of West Nilevirus are rising on the West Coast even though fall's cooler weather is dampening the reproduction of mosquitos there. San Francisco reported its third case of West Nile virus today. aged man tested positive for West Nile virus but that he was recovering at his home. The other two who contracted West Nile virus, aged man and woman, were likely to have contracted West Nile virus from visits to the Sacramento area, health officials said.

Laptop Computer But the recent rainy weather has not aided county workers at the mosquito commission.

According to the indictment, Jones would steal various IBM and Penguin computer servers from Verisign's warehouse in Virginia and sell them to Johnson. Johnson would then sell the servers to several individuals, who would sometimes place them for sale on eBay. As a result of this scheme, the indictment alleges that Jones and Johnson caused Verisign to lose more than $120, 000 worth of computer equipment. In the indictment, Jones and Johnson are charged in three counts with causing the interstate transportation of stolen property, namely IBM 330 and 335 servers, in violation of 18 U.S.C.

Desktop Computer "The mosquito population will be larger due to the rain, but whether or not there will be a direct correlation between the rain and cases of the West Nile virus is unknown," said Karen Fogg, office manager at the Salem County Mosquito control.

Notebooks The West Nile virus is transmitted when a mosquito bites an infected bird, such as a crow, and transfers the virus through the saliva to a human or another animal.

Lenovo The wet weather helps in providing a habitat for the mosquitoes to live and breed. There are no direct facts as to how many mosquitoes currently have the virus because it depends on capturing the mosquitoes and performing studies to estimate what percentage are infected.

Hard Drive Cooler temperatures slow the process, but moist, hot rainy weather attracts the mosquitoes. The accumulations of rain actually allows for more still water to fill and form a home for a breeding mosquito.

Travelstar According to the Salem County Mosquito Commission, the summer months of July and August are the worst months for West Nile virus because of the warm temperatures.

Gateway Last year at this time the mosquito commission had a estimated 100 service requests. As of this year, there have been an estimated 315 requests.

Laptop Parts Mahoney says the increase in requests is because much of the area's lands are moist and wet, and people are concerned about the virus.

Software The commission offers several tips for residents to protect themselves against the disease.

Hard Drives Residents should remove standing water from troughs, birdbaths, wading pools, ponds and clogged gutters. They should use repellent that contains at least 10 percent of the ingredient DEET and wear long sleeved shirts and slacks when outdoors. Residents should also try to avoid being out at dawn or dusk, when mosquitoes are most likely to be feeding. Horses should be vaccinated early in the season.

Electronics In the heat of the summer, mosquitoes go into tall grass so the summer sun does not affect them too much. Sometimes they venture into open buildings and when the sun sets they emerge. Mosquitoes can travel anywhere from five to 12 miles or even further with the wind.

Canon "The worst area for the possibility of the West Nile virus is anywhere where there is stagnant water with a high organic content," said Mahoney

Desktop Pc Mosquitoes need water to breed and grow. Almost anything that holds water for one week or longer can produce these pests. To eliminate mosquito problems, any standing water should be dumped.

Desktop Computers "There is no cut and dry answer as to what is expected, it all depends on the weather," said Fogg.

Think Pad The Salem County Mosquito Commission began actively preparing for the mosquito season in May, but continually works to help prevent the spread of the virus.

Repair The services made by the mosquito commission are paid for by the county tax dollars. The Salem County Board of Chosen Freeholders helps out with operating expenses, machinery and pesticide use.

Data Recovery If a dead crow is found near your property, call the health department immediately at 935-7510 or call the Salem County Mosquito Commission with concerns at 769-3255.
