Speedera And Macromedia Announce Availability Of New Live Version Of Flash Video Streaming Service

Developers can now take advantage of hosted services for Flash video delivered across a globally distributed on-demand network

Amsterdam, Netherlands - September 9, 2004 - Speedera Networks Inc., a leading global provider of on-demand distributed application hosting and content delivery services, and Macromedia (Nasdaq: MACR) today announced the immediate availability of a live video version of Macromedia Flash Video Streaming Service powered by Speedera, which is delivered using its globally distributed on-demand network and server infrastructure. Speedera will be demonstrating the new service at the Macromedia partner pavilion (Hall 7, Stand 938) during the IBC2004 Exhibition September 10-14 held at the RAI Convention Center in Amsterdam. To further support the introduction of the new live version of Flash Video Streaming Service, Speedera has also formed partnerships with leading design firms around the world to offer a special free trial of the service along with a discount on creative development services.
The new live version of Flash Video Streaming Service powered by Speedera enables enterprises and other organizations to stream live corporate communications events, deliver distance learning, stage live entertainment events, communicate with clients, and deliver other live streaming broadcasts to global audiences without the hassle of setting up and maintaining their own streaming server hardware and network infrastructure. This hosted solution powered by Speedera is built on Macromedia Flash Communication Server MX and integrated directly into the delivery, tracking, and reporting structure of Speedera's robust, globally distributed, on-demand network. Enterprises not only gain a service-based solution for Flash video streaming, they can also take advantage of Speedera's comprehensive SpeedSuite set of complementary services, including digital delivery, content monetization, security, business continuity, infrastructure management, and business intelligence. The service can be used to reach either external audiences over the Internet or internal audiences through an IP-based intranet.

Our relationship with Speedera is key to helping further the success of Flash video. The company's reputation and ability to work with large enterprise customers speaks for itself."

Of course, you’ll need a relatively expensive Flash server to stream live video, but at least it’s a possibility.

Microsoft Standard features in the live version of Flash Video Streaming Service powered by Speedera include: automatic tracking and report generation at the click of a button; video streaming that starts the instant viewers click "play"; a global network of high- performance servers that ensures that video servers and network links won't get overwhelmed by high traffic levels; upload of Flash Video (FLV) files or live streams to a ready-to-go streaming network without having to set up and maintain video servers; and a live video encoder. Similar capabilities are also available in the on-demand version of Flash Video Streaming Service that Speedera also offers.

Today, Adobe announced that it was releasing it’s newest version of the flash player and server version 9. Flash video is the pretty much the common video format used by various online sharing sites such as YouTube, Revver, Metacafe and more to deliver video online.

Laptop Computers To spur adoption of this new technology, Speedera has formed partnerships with leading Flash design houses around the world to offer an innovative solution for creating, hosting, and delivering live and on-demand Flash video streaming.
