V620 Cell Phone PC Card - Use On Verizon Wireless\' High-speed 3G EV-DO Network

Laptop Battery Novatel Wireless, one of the worlds leading wireless broadband access solution providers, and Verizon Wireless, America's leader in next-generation broadband cell phones technology, have announced the availability of the V620 Wireless broadband cell phone PC Card for use on Verizon Wireless' high-speed 3G Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) network.

What is a Network Interface Card (NIC) The most important PC device is the network interface card (NIC). Each computer on the network, including the servers, is required to have one installed. It is the NIC that provides connectivity between the PC and the network's physical medium, optic cable. Most of the new motherboards available today for PCs and servers have the network interface card integrated with the motherboard. Older computers and some newer computers do not provide onboard network interfaces which will equire a NIC to be added.

Thinkpad By using the V620 PC Card, Verizon Wireless cell phone subscribers are able to access BroadbandAccess, which is Verizon Wireless' premiere data service for business customers. This new service is powered by EV-DO technology which is actually one of the fastest commercially available wireless networks in the United States. This BroadbandAccess service is currently available in 32 major metropolitan markets across the country, and Verizon plans to continue to expand the network during 2005 and beyond.
A Little Bit Technical - But A Whole Lot Simple

While most laptops today feature integrated wireless connectivity, that is, they already have everything they need to connect to a wireless connection, some do require the use of a plug in card. standard PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association) slots on your laptop (the PCMCIA slots are the little doors on the side of your laptop which are about the width of a mobile phone and around half a centimetre thick). Once the card is plugged in and set up (youa ll need to install appropriate driver software), youa ll be able to connect to a wireless network.

Microsoft The V620 PC card uses dual band EV-DO and 1xRTT technologies. While this sounds fairly technical, essentially what it means is that business customers have access to both BroadbandAccess and NationalAccess - this therefore gives them truly national cell phone data coverage. And it gets better. Because EV-DO technology is backward compatible, it makes it far more cost effective for business customers as they don't need to reinvest in new technology on a continual basis.

: Verizon's basic subscription plan already includes data minutes, so no additional data plan is necessary. Verizon 3G phone owners will need the "Express Network" plan. Speeds will be very similar to Sprint, again depending on your coverage and network congestion.

There are several devices to choose from to make mobile broadband work mobile data cards, in 3G laptops, phones with data modems and the most predominant USB modems. Much like Bluetooth technologies are used with mobile phones, like devices. They generally utilise HSDPA ( speed downlink packet access) technologies with the aim being to provide wireless access across networks to meet the needs of business and residential users.
