Digital River Extends Online Trialware Channel to element 5's share it! Publishers
Expands online sales channels for thousands of authors of try-before-you-buy software
MINNEAPOLIS & COLOGNE, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 13, 2004-- Digital River, Inc. (Nasdaq:DRIV), a global leader in e-commerce outsourcing, today announced that it is extending its online trialware channel to thousands of shareware publishing clients of element 5. Recently acquired by Digital River and now a wholly-owned subsidiary, element 5 is a leading European provider of outsourced e-commerce services for software publishers. With access to Digital River's trialware channel, element 5's share it! publishers can further increase exposure for their products and multiply their online sales opportunities.
"Part of the purpose behind the integration of Digital River and element 5 was to combine the strengths of our organizations so together we could increase the value that we deliver to our clients," said Joel Ronning, Digital River's CEO. "The extension of Digital River's trialware channel to element 5's clients is an important step in achieving this goal."
Digital River's trialware channel is made up of try-before-you-buy software titles from thousands of small and large publishers. The software library features computer utilities, games, and business, graphic and Internet applications. When publishers submit a single software title for inclusion in Digital River's TBYB catalog, their product automatically becomes eligible for marketing and sales in online stores on branded, high-traffic content publishing, portal and online retailing sites.
"Because Digital River already has established a world-class e-commerce infrastructure and solid sales network built on thousands of software industry relationships, we can offer publishers increased exposure and incremental sales of their products across multiple online channels," said Ronning. "The net result is that we can help them accomplish what would otherwise be difficult and, in many cases, cost prohibitive for them to do on their own."
Shareware publishers participating in Digital River's trialware channel will be using the company's recently launched SoftwarePassport(TM) technology. With its sophisticated marketing and licensing capabilities, SoftwarePassport enables publishers to not only protect their software, but also market, sell, distribute and track their digital assets across online channels.
