New IGFA Inshore Tournament

May 26, 1999 The International Game Fish Association (IGFA) has announced plans for the first ever Invitational Inshore Light Tackle Tournament of Champions scheduled for the year 2001.

Thinkpad IGFA will select a series of inshore tournaments throughout the world as qualifying events, with the winning teams invited to participate in the championship tournament. The tournament will take place in the Florida Keys in 2001. Mike Leech, President of IGFA said: "We selected the Florida Keys to hold a championship tournament because of the beautiful locale, accessibility, experienced guides, charter boats and the ability to catch a wide variety of species, such as bonefish, tarpon, permit, snook, redfish and more." The inshore championship tournament will include a fly-fishing division.

Laptop Computers IGFA's Inshore Light Tackle Tournament is the second in a series of world-class events that include the Rolex/IGFA Invitational Tournament of Champions being held March 4-12, 2000, in Kona, Hawaii. A freshwater world-championship event is planned for the future. Leech pointed out that IGFA is uniquely qualified to organize these types of events since the nonprofit conservation association has members and/or representatives in 125 countries. Many IGFA representatives and trustees have vast experience in running fishing tournaments.
