Laptop Battery There are several interesting sky sights to enjoy this week, and
I'll mention them at the end of this column. The main topic here
today, however, is one of vital importance to every person who has
ever wanted to see the wonder of the starry sky and make a direct
connection with our universe. The topic is light pollution.

As a result of this scheme, the indictment alleges that Jones and Johnson caused Verisign to lose more than $120, 000 worth of computer equipment. In the indictment, Jones and Johnson are charged in three counts with causing the interstate transportation of stolen property, namely IBM 330 and 335 servers, in violation of 18 U.S.C.

Lenovo I suspect that the central theme of a recent episode of "The

Week.

did end on an essentially positive note against light pollution and
for the importance of being able to see the wonders of a dark night
sky.
Travelstar A crucial thing to realize is that light pollution is not just a
problem for those of us who want to see the beauties of the stars,
Milky Way, Northern Lights, and other celestial wonders. At least a
few billion dollars a year worth of energy is being wasted in the
U.S. on light which escapes uselessly out to space, largely due to
improper shielding and directing of lights. Such lights also
produce glare that actually reduces traffic safety and hinders
crime prevention.
Gateway There has been some action against light pollution here in
southern New Jersey in recent months. I hope to tell you about
those matters and much more in an upcoming column.

brightest star, Pollux (look for Gemini's second-brightest star a
bit farther to the right of Pollux). Note also that the moon is
exactly half-lit at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday - the line on it separating
light from dark should be as perfectly straight, overall, as
possible.

far from the brightest evening point of light, Jupiter.
