Compact LCD Radars
Author:
Staff A shortage of installation space doesn't mean you have to do without radar. New compact LCD models, as small as most good LCD depth sounders, fit where larger CRT-based radars won't, and today's smaller, lighter radomes don't require the solid, reinforced footing that bigger antennas need. At this time the display detail of smaller LCD radars doesn't equal that of CRTs, and their smaller antennas can't deliver big-antenna resolution. But while space-saving LCD models won't spot birds miles away like big CRTs will, they're certainly adequate for safe navigation and collision avoidance. They're also less vulnerable to water damage and are easier to see in direct sunlight, making them a better choice for outside mounting positions. Considerably less expensive than CRT models, smaller LCD radars start at approximately $1,400.
