Laptop Battery After a decade in which Somerset was one of the fastest-growing
counties in New Jersey, it may seem there's no room left for
another new house. But more are on the way: More than 7,000 new
single-family houses, townhouses, condos or apartments are in the
pipeline now, according to an analysis conducted by The Star-Ledger
of projects that are approved, under review by local planning
boards or under construction.
According to the indictment, Jones would steal various IBM and Penguin computer servers from Verisign's warehouse in Virginia and sell them to Johnson. Johnson would then sell the servers to several individuals, who would sometimes place them for sale on eBay. As a result of this scheme, the indictment alleges that Jones and Johnson caused Verisign to lose more than $120, 000 worth of computer equipment. In the indictment, Jones and Johnson are charged in three counts with causing the interstate transportation of stolen property, namely IBM 330 and 335 servers, in violation of 18 U.S.C.
Thinkpad "To a certain degree, we're a victim of our own success," said
Bernard Navatto, chairman of the Somerset County Planning Board,
who said the county's lifestyle and location make it a
popular place to live. "At the same time, we're trying to work on
redevelopment rather than development of open fields."

Microsoft Somerset County had the state's fastest growth rate in the
1990s, its population swelling 23.8 percent as the number of
residents increased by almost 60,000 to a total of 297,490,
according to the 2000 Census.
laptop computers is driving strong sales for notebook computers, according to the latest quarterly sales figures from the research firm IDC, which reported a 37% computer sales for the second quarter, compared with a year earlier. In the U.S., laptop sales grew 17.7%, while sales of desktop computers and servers fell 4%. The New York Times ( 10), CNET ( 10)
Laptop Computers While some of the increase came from families expanding and some
from newcomers buying existing homes, many more moved into the
19,000-plus new houses -- from large McMansions to condominiums --
that materialized across fields and hillsides in the last decade.
Among them, the county saw the near completion of the state's
largest planned development, the Hills in Bernards and
Bedminster.

Laptop Computer There will be thousands more new homes across the county if all
the plans in the works come to fruition.
"Computer industry analysts estimate that some 60 percent of all corporate data exists only on desktop and laptop computers, " said Walter Scott, CEO of Acronis. "Incorporating Acronis True Image with New Mexico Software backup server is the ideal solution to capture that corporate data and ensure that it is not lost. While traditional server backups are effective for protecting server data, every company should have a combination of server and workstation backup plans."
Desktop Computer Data gathered from the county's local planning departments
showed that more than 7,000 new homes, everything from luxury
apartments proposed in older downtowns to single-family homes in
communities restricted to adults, are either approved, currently
being reviewed by the boards, or under construction.
Notebooks Several trends are clear. There is a move toward housing for
"active" adults age 55 and up, in Franklin, Hillsborough and a
half-dozen other towns. Other residential projects are shrinking in
size as land is used up in places like Branchburg. And small, older
towns such as South Bound Brook and Somerville are seeing a wave of
redevelopment.
Lenovo In recent years, Branchburg saw new neighborhoods numbering in
the hundreds of homes as the agricultural community sprouted
developments with names such as Mountainview Farm. Now, most
projects there are 10 houses or less, built on bits of land next to
established neighborhoods, said zoning officer Wayne Pilato. In at
least one case, residents sold pieces of their back yards to a
builder, who stitched together enough for four new houses.
Hard Drive Bridgewater also has numerous smaller subdivisions proposed,
essentially filling in the spaces left between developments that
came first.
Travelstar "The late'80s is when the big boom came. That's when the farms
that existed, most of them, were bought up by developers and turned
into residential sites," Pilato said. "Right now, we have very few
farms left."
Gateway As homebuyers age, the kind of new housing proposed is also
changing to keep pace.
Laptop Parts In the early'80s, the county saw new condo complexes geared
toward first-time homeowners. The'90s brought big single-family
homes, with luxury kitchens, three-car garages and
everything a family could want. Now, age-restricted communities are
on the way.
Software Franklin's Canal Walk development has 811 approved homes for
"active adults," age 55 and up, and may include as many as 1,400
homes by the time construction is done.
Hard Drives The project will have swimming pools, tennis courts, a clubhouse
and a social director. No children under age 19 can live there.
"People want this kind of living, but they don't want to move
to South Jersey," said Susan Brogan, Canal Walk's sales
manager.
Electronics Two more active adult complexes also received conditional
approval in Franklin. Bridgewater has two approved, both on Route
202-206. Similar housing is also proposed in Hillsborough, where
Gateway at Sunnymeade would put 698 units of age-restricted housing
off Falcon Road.
Canon While the adult housing is partly in response to aging of the
Baby Boomer generation, those projects also feed towns' desire for
development that won't strain the tax base, mostly by adding
school-age children.
Desktop Pc "The municipalities are more than happy to accommodate those
projects because they tend to have less impact on municipal
services," said county Planning Director Robert Bzik.
Desktop Computers Not everyone wants them, however. Suzanne and Howard Kreiswirth
of Hillsborough are among residents opposing Gateway at
Sunnymeade.
Think Pad "I think it's horrible," said Suzanne Kreiswirth, whose house
sits on an acre of land in an older neighborhood, Partridge Run.
They moved there from Union three years ago. "Every night we see
deer in our yard, and wild turkeys. We wanted our children to grow
up in a beautiful environment, now they're just pulling it all
away."
Repair Some of Somerset County's traditional downtowns are welcoming
change. In South Bound Brook, there are plans to redevelop the old
GAF industrial site into condos, and to build age-restricted condos
on the site of an old school. Somerville is weighing plans for
luxury apartments to replace an aging shopping center. Raritan
Borough may see an old mill converted into 225 apartments.
Data Recovery While a wave of new homes means a spate of other changes in the
future -- more traffic, more shopping centers, maybe even more
cemeteries -- Navatto said encouraging redevelopment is one way to
minimize that.
Cisco Officials also continue to attempt to preserve open space.
Between 1995 and 2002, nearly 8,900 acres of county land were
preserved through open space and farmland preservation. County
officials said that is nearly a one-to-one ratio between
preservation and development.
Keyboard Some communities feel they've seen enough growth already.
"Downzoning" rural land -- increasing the minimum lot size required
to build a house -- has also caught on.
Monitor Montgomery officials several years ago rezoned around the
Sourland Mountains, with areas that were previously zoned for 2-,
3- and 5-acre lots being increased to 5- and 10-acre lots. Earlier
this year, about a third of Hillsborough was rezoned to 10-acre
lots, creating new agricultural and mountain zones.
Peapack-Gladstone and Bedminster have also downzoned.
Desktop The changes weren't always easy -- Hillsborough's, in
particular, spurred opposition from landowners. But in a town with
a heavily developed core -- thousands of condominiums, homes and
townhouses were built in Hillsborough, beginning in the 1980s --
and where much of the remaining land is environmentally sensitive,
the idea was to slow things down.
Infosys "We couldn't buy every available piece of land that we wanted to
preserve as open space," said Hillsborough planner Robert
Ringelheim. "To preserve the farms and the fragile mountain system,
the only way, other than buying properties, was to zone it so
developers wouldn't be enticed to buy up large tracts and start
making 50-unit subdivisions."
