Microsoft Exchange
Solution Provides Near-Continuous Protection and Rapid Recovery

Replication Express(TM) for Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, an
automated, disk-to-disk backup solution that enables
near-continuous protection and rapid recovery of Exchange
databases. Developed by the company's Engenio Storage Group,
Replication Express (REx(TM)) for Exchange lowers email
administrative and downtime
costs while promoting business
productivity and responsiveness. IBM is the first Engenio
partner to offer REx for Exchange.

backup which can be disruptive to users, and manual recovery from
tape can be a complex, error-prone process. REx for Exchange
enables recovery to begin in a matter of minutes compared to hours
using traditional methods. This is achieved by facilitating more
frequent backups and storing them as mountable recovery sets on
disk.
Backing up virtual machines from within each virtual machine is thus the preferred approach in a production environment, providing the greatest opportunity for recovery. Since these virtual machines can be running server operating systems such as Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, the backup solution must be designed and licensed to run on these operating systems. (Some desktop backup solutions simply don't work on server operating systems.)

Microsoft The Engenio REx software leverages the Microsoft Volume Shadow
Copy Service to provide near-continuous protection of Exchange
Server 2003 data. Using proven, storage controller-based
technologies, REx frequently shadow copies Microsoft Exchange
databases and logs according to administrator policies,
automatically makes physical disk copies (mountable recovery sets),
and then automatically verifies data consistency. Rapid recovery is
initiated by simply redirecting Exchange to a desired recovery set.
Since copying of the Microsoft Exchange database is not required
before recovery can begin, REx significantly reduces recovery
time.
Many organizations rely on Microsoft Exchange servers for their enterprise messaging, calendaring, contact list, and task management. Historically, ColdFusion® mail from Exchange servers, but other Exchange Server functions have not been accessible from ColdFusion Markup Language (CFML). Now in Adobe® ColdFusion 8 software, several new tags make it easy to interact with Microsoft Exchange servers not only to send, get, mail, but also to create, get, and manage calendar events, contacts, and tasks.
