Earlier this month, Iran hastily organised a demonstration outside the Italian embassy in Tehran on the same day that top Italian lawmakers from both government and opposition parties lined up outside the Iranian embassy in Rome to condemn "incendiary" remarks by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who had said that "Israel must be wiped off the map".

Tehran, which was organised by the para-military Bassij movement,
an off-shoot of the Revolutionary Guards.
The ambassador refused to open the embassy's doors to Eide, complaining that reporters were present. When reporters moved down the street, Iran's embassy remained closed. "We were told that the police could come and deliver the petition on our behalf, but we can't use the police as messenger in a situation like this, " Eide said. Around 100 people demonstrated outside the embassy in Oslo earlier on Monday, protesting the planned execution.

Iranian embassy in Paris to condemn the Iranian president's
threats. Several dozen Iranian opposition activists joined in the
protest, saying that Ahmadinejad was speaking for the minority
ruling clique in Iran and not the Iranian people.
