Luther swimming gets ready for big meet
Date 2/10/2000 12:00 AM | Topic: Sports The Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams brought home yet another win, defeating Saint Mary's University in a dual meet on Saturday February 5, 2000. This was the very last meet to prepare for the Liberal Arts Invitational, the last meet of the year.
The Men's team crushed the Cardinals 131-45 and remains undefeated for the season. Ryan Micale ('01) swam the first leg of the 100m Backstroke in the Medley Relay and set a pool record with his time of 56.22. Matt Poock ('02) had a PR in the 1000m Freestyle with a time of 11:20.1. Also swimming well for the Norse was Lloyd Smith ('02), who received a PR in the 100m Butterfly with a time of 58.40. Joe Rinaldi ('00) took a first place finish in both the one meter and three meter diving events.
"We're getting started into tapering our intensity, resting and cutting yardage, hoping to peak at the big meet," said Coach Jay McGrew.
The Women's Swim-ming and Diving team also brought home a 131-73 win Saturday over St. Mary's University. Senior Jen Shaw swam her personal best in the 500m Freestyle with a time of 5:57.61. Katie Haseman ('03) also received a personal best in her voluntary diving event.
"Everybody swam where we expected them to. We've been working very hard and they all began to show a spark of life last meet," commented Coach Kay McGrew on Saturday's race.
