Wave-Gorge/Hi-Tech 8'5"
Author:
Ken Winner Though the Hi-Tech 8'5" Wave isn't the shortest board in the test, or the lowest in volume, it's so narrow that it rates as one of the two least powerful. Thus, it requires more wind to get going than other boards of similar length. Once it's going, though, it feels light, crisp and controllable. It's fairly smooth in chop, easy to turn and capable of slashing just about any size wave. Double strap inserts eliminate twist, but make the straps feel narrow and hard to get a wide foot into. Nonskid and construction are good. Pads are good but hard. PG
