Hard Drive Recycling officials decided to collect cell phones and VCRs this year because of national trends, county Recycling Coordinator Ann Moore said.
Travelstar A change in federal law late last year made it easier for cell-phone customers to switch service providers and many are getting new phones along with their new calling plans. The cell phones collected by the county will be recycled or sent to agencies that reprogram the phones for charity, such as the county Sheriff's Department program for seniors, Moore said. "Apparently, there is a pretty good market for the used cell phones," she said.
Gateway The popularity of DVD players made it necessary for the office to begin accepting old VCRs, Moore said.
Laptop Parts Like the other electronic equipment, the VCRs will be stripped of any hazardous materials and then recycled, Moore said.
