Help Desk employees recently moved the video editing workstations from inside the Help Desk office to the lab area outside.

The video editing workstations at the Help Desk are mostly used for copying videos from a camera to a DVD or VHS, converting VHS movies into DVD disks or copying a DVD to another DVD.

Martin Jones ('08), who works at the Help Desk, has noticed an increase in usage of the machines after they were moved into the lab area.

"Students mostly come to me asking for help on how to stream video from their devices into the computer, and after we moved the video workstations outside, more students now come to the Help Desk asking for help than they used to," Jones said.

Nima Sherpa ('07), an accounting major, likes to play with videos during his spare time. He likes the new setup of the workstations.

"When I use the video editing machines now, I feel like I am using any other computer in the library. I feel more comfortable in the open area," Sherpa said.

There have been some concerns regarding the new arrangement. One possible problem is excessive noise when the Help Desk staff are teaching users how to use the machines. Olson said that the Help Desk staff considered this problem before deciding to move the video editing machines in the computer lab area.

"We did keep that issue in mind while setting up this new arrangement," he said. "That is why the computers that need more support have been placed closer to the Help Desk, so that we can keep the disruption to other lab users as low as possible."
