SafeNet Launches Ground-Breaking Line of Ethernet Encryptors, Superior to IP Sec, for Securing Communications over Metro Ethernet
Company to Showcase the World's First Video Feed Secured at Layer 2 over Simulated Metro Ethernet Utilizing its new technology at Interop 2006
BALTIMORE, Maryland May 2, 2006 - SafeNet, Inc. (NASDAQ: SFNT), setting the standard for information security, today announced the launch of a new line of SafeEnterprise Ethernet Encryptors to secure Metro Ethernet communications. The SafeEnterprise family of Ethernet Encryptors have been developed to enable the world's leading financial, pharmaceutical, legal, government and enterprise organizations to protect critical information assets traveling across regional and global networks. The new products are on display at Interop 2006, which is being held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada from April 30-May 5, 2006.
One of the greatest misconceptions in networking is the belief that fiber optic communications are inherently secure. In booth #705, SafeNet will have two demonstrations: a fiber wire tap to make evident the vulnerability of a traditional fiber line; and the world's first encrypted video feed secured at Layer 2 over simulated Metro Ethernet using the new line of Ethernet Encryptors.
Global spending on Metro Ethernet equipment nearly doubled last year to about $5 billion, according to new data from Infonetics Research, which projects the market to triple by 2009. As Metro Ethernet continues to become the premier enterprise technology for site to site communications and as data security and privacy regulations become stricter, SafeNet's line of SafeEnterprise Ethernet Encryptors are a security necessity.
"Traditionally, to mitigate the risks associated with high-speed communications, IPSec VPN solutions (which operate at Layer 3) have been used to protect Metro Ethernets. Unfortunately, IPSec solutions, in site-to-site applications, are plagued by bandwidth overhead, latency, and management complexity issues," said Andy Solterbeck, vice president and general manager for the Data Protection Business Unit, SafeNet, Inc. "SafeNet is proud to be launching its line of SafeEnterprise Ethernet Encryptors to enable organizations to significantly reduce costs, meet data protection and privacy regulations, manage regulatory compliance reporting and auditing, and implement the highest level of encryption security with minimal impact on network latency."
SafeNet's Vice President and General Manager of the Data Protection Business Unit, Andy Solterbeck, will be available at Interop booth #705 to discuss:
* Rapid adoption of Metro Ethernet
* SafeEnterprise Ethernet Encryptors' relevancy in the market
* Implementing security solutions that have minimal impact on network latency
* Solving the world's largest organizations' compliance needs while significantly reducing costs, enhancing security, meeting data protection and privacy regulations, and managing regulatory compliance reporting and auditing
* Security Trends in the Networking industry
About SafeNet's Line of SafeEnterpise Ethernet Encryptors
Operating transparently at Layer 2, with seamless end-to-end integration and adding virtually no latency, SafeEnterprise Encryptors enable organizations to safely take advantage of these Metro Ethernet benefits:
* Reduced overhead, resulting in lower bandwidth costs
* Low latency for the "triple play" of voice, video, and data
* Cost advantages that stem from the simplicity and interoperability of Ethernet
* Scalability and ease of provisioningno more waiting three months for additional bandwidth
Featuring line-speed 256 Bit AES encryption, maximum throughput and low-latency, SafeEnterprise Ethernet Encryptors secure 10Mpbs, FastEthernet (100Mbps) and GbE (1Gbps) Metro Ethernet networks. Additionally, SafeEnterprise Security Management Center (SMC), software manages SafeNets entire family of networking encryptors, helping companies to easily produce a data security audit trail thereby lowering compliance-related costs.
To view the demonstrations of SafeNet's Ethernet Encryptors and to learn more about SafeNet's entire suite of data encryption products while at Interop 2006, visit booth #705.
With this announcement, SafeNet continues to focus on network encryption with the world's first complete family of High-Speed Encryption Devices. The SafeNet High-Speed Encryption product family includes:
* SafeEnterprise SONET Encryptors support up to 10Gbps encrypted throughput
* HighAssurance 4000 Gateway IPSec encryptor supports up to 1Gbps encrypted throughput
* SafeEnterprise Ethernet Encryptors support up to 1Gbps encrypted throughput
* SafeEnterprise ATM Encryptors support up to 622Mbps encrypted throughput
* Security Management Center (SMC) provides central remote management for entire product family
