Katz runs the company with 22 paid employees and 300 volunteers who give technical support to new users and are compensated with free memberships (remember those days at AOL ). He rents space in two AT&T data centers, one in Manhattan, another inSecaucus, N.J., with $700, 000 worth of computer equipment, end servers from Dell Computer and five IBM Unix servers. The $2 million annual payroll is his biggest expense.

Microsoft Google and Dell are expected to announce the deal Thursday, according to the WSJ story.

According to Mr. Gyu Lee. IBM, "CyberLink' use and very entertaining. It is exactly the type of software we are looking for to bundle with our personal computers. Our users will now have an easy way to enjoy digital quality video, photos, and movies on their PCs." IBM is currently demonstrating PowerCinema on its PC systems.

The software bundle also includes Google's Web search bar, though terms of the deal between the computer-maker and Google were not described, other than it was for a three-year term.

Dell Printer Ink Cartridges & Laser Toner In March of 2003, Dell announced it would start selling its own line of printers by private labeling Lexmark printers under the Dell brand name, Packard Co., who was the market leader at the time. Dell's plan was to begin bundling their all ready popular brand of computers with their own printers in an attempt to quickly gain a large share of the printer and printer supplies market.

Laptop Computer Sounding more like it came out of Redmond Washington, the PCs default home-page will be a co-brand Web page and Dell's PC's will also use Google as the default search engine. The WSJ story did not say whether Dell PC users could easily change default search engine, but one can only assume it depends on the OS installed, meaning users can reset it to which ever search engine they chose.

Desktop Computer The move by Google is a smart one and its odd that they've not attempted similar deals with other PC makers. But earlier this month, Google did express concern that Microsoft's new Internet Explorer Web browser unfairly directs users to its MSN search site instead of allowing them to choose which search engine they want.

Notebooks While Google's move in bundling its software in Dell computers may seem like a positive step for the Nation's No. 1 search engine. Some users are concerned about the clutter it will create on their desktops.

Lenovo "Preinstalled software and search bars that clutter my window to the internet are the very kinds of things that turned me off to most of Google's competitors," one user wrote.

Hard Drive Others liken Google's in bundling their software in Dell PCs as mirroring AOL, that at one time had so much screen clutter and pop ups, the Time Warner company began losing users that were once devoted to the search engine.

Travelstar An ex-AOL user wrote, "I hope Google doesn't forget that the reason people chose it above the many other search engines is because of it's clean appearance and lack of superfluous gadgets, windows, and unnecessary peripherals."
