IT association gets $200,000 grant
By WTN News • 02/15/06 The Information Technology Association of Wisconsin is receiving a $200,000 grant from the state Department of Commerce for initiatives in workforce development, new company creation, company growth and capital formation, according from a statement from the governor's office.
Formed late last year, the association has about 40 corporate members and sponsors so far, including IT companies as well as law, investment, utility and financial services firms.
CEO Jim Rice has been spending much of his time so far talking with members and getting a feel for the momentum of the industry, and will be drumming up more support Thursday evening at the Accelerate Madison meeting in Madison.
The grant will reimburse about 35 percent of qualified expenditures by the foundation arm of the IT association, which is a separate entity from the advocacy and lobbying arm, though the leadership of the two is identical. Rice said uses of the grant would include events, speakers and programs for the Wisconsin IT sector as well as efforts with the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs Network to encourage new companies.
A membership meeting is to be held March 15.
