Cirond Announces Innovative Access Point Detection Solution to Counter Wireless Threat in $4 Billion Network Security Market

New Cirond AirPatrol Sentinel Provides 24x7 "Wired Side" Scan

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 27, 2004-- Cirond Corporation (OTCBB:CROO) today announced an important new member of its growing family of network security solutions aimed at dealing with the significant threat to network security posed by the implementation of unauthorized wireless network devices. Cirond AirPatrol Sentinel, which will start shipping August 15, 2004 at a price of $1,000 (with an annual access point definition update fee of $495), provides network administrators with a strong first line of defense against the installation of unauthorized or "rogue" wireless access point devices by conducting a constant 24x7 scan of ports on a traditional wired network - and reporting any wireless devices it discovers.
Left undetected, a simple $40 wireless access point plugged into a corporate wired network can seriously compromise network security by allowing anyone within range of the wireless access point's signal to potentially gain access to the corporate network - or use the network to launch a "denial of service" attack against a third party. Cirond AirPatrol Sentinel provides the technology to help reduce the threat of such an attack by constantly scanning the wired network for any evidence of new wireless devices being attached to it.

"AirPatrol Sentinel represents a straightforward way for organizations to instantly deal with the significant security threat represented by the widespread availability of low-cost, ubiquitous wireless network technology," said Cirond CEO and President Nicholas Miller. "We estimate the market for technologies addressing this problem to be in excess of $100 million for this year alone."

The wireless access point scanning technology in Cirond AirPatrol Sentinel is automatically kept up-to-date with regular access point definition and access point detection engine updates provided for an annual fee of $495. The first 12 months of updates are included in the initial price of the product.

"Not only are hardware manufacturers regularly releasing new wireless access points, but they are also releasing firmware updates to older wireless access points. We have leveraged the experience gained in providing the broadest access point support in the industry in our Winc Manager and new AirPatrol Enterprise products, to develop the access point detection technology incorporated in Air Patrol Sentinel. This has enabled us to deliver a wired-side access point detection solution which we believe sets the standard for the industry," said Mr. Miller.

Cirond AirPatrol Sentinel is recommended for installation in combination with Cirond's recently announced AirPatrol Mobile - the first mobile, software-only solution that enables network administrators to instantly detect and locate unauthorized wireless devices.

AirPatrol Sentinel will be available directly from the Cirond Web site at http://www.cirond.com or through authorized resellers.
