SETAR Launches Wireless Data Services in Aruba Based on GPRS Solution from Nortel Networks

ORANJESTAD, Aruba--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 9, 2004--Servicio di Telecomunicacion di Aruba (SETAR) N.V. will begin offering new and advanced data services to local and roaming wireless subscribers in Aruba based on a General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) solution from Nortel Networks (NYSE:NT)(TSX:NT).
The new infrastructure positions SETAR to offer 'always on' access to wireless data applications like high-speed mobile Web browsing, m-commerce, multimedia messaging, and downloading of large e-mail attachments, music, videos and games.

"Mobile subscribers in Aruba and visitors to our island can now enjoy the most advanced data services anytime, anywhere, right from their wireless devices, whether to work, play, or keep in touch with family and friends," said Roland Croes, managing director of SETAR.

Nortel Networks has implemented a solution for SETAR to evolve its existing Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) wireless network by deploying GPRS technology and platforms enabling Mobile Multimedia Services (MMS) and Wireless Browsing Services (WBS). The new infrastructure positions SETAR to drive new revenue opportunities by offering value-added services.

"Our selection of Nortel Networks for this network upgrade was based on their breadth of experience in deploying GSM/GPRS networks," said Raul Ponson, manager, Technical Sector for SETAR. "Nortel Networks proven GPRS solution positions us to keep operational costs down and leverage our previous investments in bringing sophisticated services to our customers."

"Nortel Networks has worked closely with SETAR on this latest project to ensure delivery of a secure and scalable infrastructure that can grow to address current and future demand for wireless applications," said Ray Bulengo, sales director, Caribbean Region, Nortel Networks. "Nortel Networks continues to honor its 35-year commitment to Caribbean customers to build advanced networks that can help them deliver sophisticated communications services."

Nortel Networks has designed, installed and launched more than 300 wireless networks in over 50 countries across the globe. Nortel Networks was the industry's first supplier with wireless networks operating in all advanced radio technologies (GSM/GPRS/EDGE, CDMA2000 1X and 1xEV-DO, UMTS and WLAN), and is the only end-to-end provider of all next generation wireless solutions.

Nortel Networks has had a presence in the Caribbean since the late 1960s, working with leading regional service providers, corporations and governments to deploy advanced communication infrastructures to serve residents and visitors. Today, wireless operators in well over 20 countries in the Caribbean region have implemented or are currently deploying Nortel Networks GSM/GPRS/EDGE solutions.
