No fruit, bread, grains, starchy vegetables, or dairy products (except cheese, cream, and butter) are allowed during this phase. During the Ongoing Weight Loss phase, dieters experiment with various levels of carbohydrate consumption until they determine the most liberal level of carbohydrate intake that allows them to continue to lose weight. Dieters are encouraged to maintain this level of carbohydrate intake until their weight loss goals are met. During the Premaintenance and Maintenance phases, dieters determine the level of carbohydrate consumption that allows them to maintain their weight. The most common reasons people lower the fat in their diet are for weight loss and the prevention and treatment of diseases, such as heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, cancer, and diabetes. The America diet provides an average of 34% of calories from fat, with 12% of these calories coming from saturated fat. However, the American Heart Association, The National Cancer Institute, and the American Dietetic Association recommend that only 20% to 30% of our daily caloric intake should come from fat, with 10% or less coming from saturated fat. Radon isn t a small problem, says Charles T. Hess, Ph.D., professor of physics at the University of Maine at Orono, who has studied the health effects of radon for more than 20 years. Radon is a naturally occurring gas produced by radioactive decay of uranium in soil and water throughout the country. It is the second most common cause of lung cancer after smoking, contributing to 10, 000 deaths a year. Because it is a gas, it can easily slip into a home through cracks in floors and walls, construction joints, and gaps around pipes. Ask neighbors if they have taken recent radon measurements. Since radon levels can fluctuate dramatically from house to house, this isn t a foolproof method. Check it out. Get a radon detector, available at many hardware stores, and place in the basement or lowest living areas of your home, Dr. Landrigan says. Detectors that accumulate radon for 2 to 90 days will give you a general idea of your risk. If that reading is high, get a detector that will measure radon levels for 6 to 12 months. Since radon levels can vary day to day, a long-term test will give you a better idea of your year-round radon exposure. According to the indictment, Jones would steal various IBM and Penguin computer servers from Verisign's warehouse in Virginia and sell them to Johnson. Johnson would then sell the servers to several individuals, who would sometimes place them for sale on eBay. As a result of this scheme, the indictment alleges that Jones and Johnson caused Verisign to lose more than $120, 000 worth of computer equipment. In the indictment, Jones and Johnson are charged in three counts with causing the interstate transportation of stolen property, namely IBM 330 and 335 servers, in violation of 18 U.S.C.
