JiWire's Hotspot Directory Enables Top News Sites to Quickly and Cost-Effectively Deploy a Private-Labeled Service That Details Venue Information for the More Than 40,000 Wi-Fi Access Points Worldwide
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 21, 2004--
JiWire, the leading provider of Wi-Fi content and hotspot information, today announced that Forbes.com and Wired News (Wired.com), part of the Terra Lycos (Nasdaq:TRLY) Network, the global Internet group, have selected JiWire's Hotspot Directory to be integrated into their web sites. The agreements will enable these leading news and technology web sites to offer their tens of millions of users access to JiWire's directory of over 40,000 Wi-Fi access points available today, as well as location amenities, maps and driving directions.
Through the new co-branded websites, Forbes.com and Wired News are able to quickly and cost-effectively deploy a private-labeled service that targets the mobile professional. Wired News' and Forbes.com's co-branded hotspot directories (http://wired.jiwire.com and http://forbes.jiwire.com) launched in April and June respectively.
The highly coveted mobile professional audience is on the rise. According to Gartner Group, by the end of the year, hotspot users are poised to rise to 30 million, up from 9.3 million last year, and more than half of notebook PCs used by businesses will have Wi-Fi capabilities.
"We are thrilled to be on top of this cutting-edge technology," said Jim Spanfeller, president and CEO of Forbes.com. "JiWire's easy-to-use Wi-Fi hotspot directory assists the senior business decision-makers who use Forbes.com to find convenient hotspots and stay connected to their businesses."
"We're pleased to offer our readers JiWire's real-time functionality," said Alison Macondray, publisher and executive producer of Wired News. "A hotspot locator is a great fit for our mobile, early-adapter, and increasingly wireless audience."
"With the number of people who use Wi-Fi hotspots globally likely to triple this year, our partners are poised to benefit from offering this growing audience JiWire's directory," said Kevin McKenzie, CEO of JiWire. "We are pleased to team with these respected online brands and to offer their users the most comprehensive Wi-Fi directory available today."
Partners Incorporate the Most Comprehensive Hotspot Directory Available Today
Through JiWire's agreements with more than 400 individual Wireless Internet Service Providers, Forbes.com and Wired News are able to offer users the most comprehensive and up-to-date guide to free and commercial Wi-Fi locations. Unlike other hotspot directories on the Web, many of the locations listed are personally visited and verified by JiWire staff. The directory is available online and in portable versions for laptops, PDAs and cell phones.
