Microsoft However, these treasured resources are at risk of being destroyed by sprawl: from 1995 to 2000, the Highlands lost 17,000 acres of forests and 8,000 acres of farmland. Sprawl threatens to destroy another 5,000 acres each and every year.
According to the indictment, Jones would steal various IBM and Penguin computer servers from Verisign's warehouse in Virginia and sell them to Johnson. Johnson would then sell the servers to several individuals, who would sometimes place them for sale on eBay. As a result of this scheme, the indictment alleges that Jones and Johnson caused Verisign to lose more than $120, 000 worth of computer equipment. In the indictment, Jones and Johnson are charged in three counts with causing the interstate transportation of stolen property, namely IBM 330 and 335 servers, in violation of 18 U.S.C.
Laptop Computers Faced with the stark reality of losing the states most important water supply source, Governor James E. McGreevey formed a Highlands Task Force comprised of representatives of local government, conservation, commerce, development and farm advocates, as well as members of his Administration. He charged them with producing recommendations to preserve the Highlands natural resources and enhance the Regions quality of life while providing for smart growth opportunities, including economic development and redevelopment.

Laptop Computer On March 13, the Task Force released its Action Plan for the Highlands. Among the recommendations:
laptop computers is driving strong sales for notebook computers, according to the latest quarterly sales figures from the research firm IDC, which reported a 37% computer sales for the second quarter, compared with a year earlier. In the U.S., laptop sales grew 17.7%, while sales of desktop computers and servers fell 4%. The New York Times ( 10), CNET ( 10)
Desktop Computer * Create a core Preservation Area (the Core) of 350,000 to 390,000 contiguous acres (about half of the region) comprised of the lands most important to protecting the regions water quality. These lands would be subject to an aggressive acquisition effort and stricter environmental protections, and would benefit from a transfer of development rights program. (Less than half of the Core is already protected, while one-third is unprotected and threatened; the remainder is already developed.)
Notebooks * Establish an independent 15-member Drinking Water Protection and Regional Planning Council to prepare a regional master plan. The Councils planning, zoning and review authority would be mandatory within the Core, and outside it, implemented through the Councils advisory role. Incentive programs and legal protections for municipalities, including those that opt in to the Councils master plan would be created. A majority of the Council members should be local representing towns or counties in the Highlands.
Lenovo * Enhance land preservation across the region, focusing in the Core on watershed lands and large forest tracts that contribute most to the regions high-quality water supplies, and outside the Core on farmland and environmentally sensitive land. This effort would include seeking more funds for saving land, as well as coordinating and planning efforts through a Highlands Land Summit.
Hard Drive * Mobilize state agencies to help preserve the Highlands through existing programs, and by making protection of the region a factor in decision making.
Travelstar If any of this sounds familiar, it should it takes the best features of several highly successful models already working to protect and enhance other regions of New Jersey and neighboring states, including the Hackensack Meadowlands and the New Jersey Pinelands and Long Island Pine Barrens.
Gateway The complete set of recommendations was OKed by all the task force members but one a developer who wanted specific mandatory growth areas defined outside the Core. However, since no mandatory preservation areas are recommended outside the Core, the Task Force decided not to recommend growth areas there, either.
Laptop Parts The Task Force Action Plan represents a strong consensus for moving Highlands preservation from study to action. And now, key state legislators, Senator Bob Smith and Assemblyman John F. McKeon, chairs of the Senate and Assembly Environment Committees respectively, will soon introduce legislation to protect the region. Hearings have already been scheduled.
Software Past efforts including the 1992 Governors Bi-State Skylands Greenway Task Force report, New Jersey Conservations Foundations 1992 book The New Jersey Highlands: Treaures at Risk, 1992 and 2002 USDA Forest Service Highlands Regional Studies, and the 2001 NJ State Plan designation of a Highlands Special Resource Area have been critical in getting us to this point. Now, however, Governor McGreevey and the legislative environment committee leaders deserve tremendous credit for taking bold action steps to protect the Highlands! You can attend a legislative hearing to let these officials know that you appreciate their work, and that you want the state to make the most of this historic opportunity.
Hard Drives I urge you to attend one or more of these hearings and make your voice heard for preservation of the Highlands!
