More National Awards for Sport Fishing


For the second time this year, Sport Fishing feature articles have won national recognition, this time in the Outdoor Writers Association of America's prestigious annual competition, which this year attracted nearly 1,400 entries from top writers. "Fishing's Brave New World" (September 1998) by editor-in-chief Doug Olander earned two first-place awards in different categories, one in the contest for best saltwater-fishing article in a magazine and the other for best boating article in a magazine. The feature focuses on the growing national interest in fishing saltwater from kayaks, offering both an exciting overview and a very instructional how-to.

Laptop Battery Olander also received an award in the technical articles category for his exhaustive test of monofilament lines' abrasion resistance, "Tough Guys" (July 1998), something unprecedented in any fishing magazine.
