GCA EXCLUSIVE: Mario Kart: DD Online via Warp Pipe
GameCube Advanced is proud to present the very first video footage of Mario Kart: Double Dash playing online via the newly introduced Warp Pipe technology.
The video footage below is of Chad Paulson (Warp Pipe director) and Tushar Singh (Warp Pipe developer) battling it out, one on one online. The great part is, Chad Paulson is located in Bloomington, Indiana and Tushar Singh is located in Waterloo, Canada.
Getting into specifics of their newly created gameplay experience, Chad is playing with an upload speed of 256kbps and Tushar with a slightly lower number of 115kbps. What is so spectacular is the fact that their entire gameplay experience is staying at a constant 40-50 fps.
Chad Paulson had the following to say regarding the new Warp Pipe software:
"I'm very excited to announce that we are close to releasing our beta product, which will allow gamers to play Mario Kart: Double Dash!! around 40-50fps on
residential Cable and DSL broadband."
"Although our beta release will have the same limited functionality of our alpha release, we look forward to bringing gamers a feature rich 1.0 product in early 2004. 1.0 will allow gamers to maintain a Warp Pipe contact list, join chats, and easily find others to setup and play online GameCube games in an intuitive instant messenger-like interface."
The Warp Pipe software for Double Dash is in the beta stages of development, and will be available to the public very soon. When the beta is released, it will be available on both Windows and Mac OSX platforms, although MAC OSX may come a few days after the Windows release. There is no solid release date for the beta, but according to the Warp Pipe team, they are certain it will be available before the end of the year.
